Honda Vietnam (HVN), in collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), is launching a nationwide Helmet Donation Program for first-grade students in the 2025-2026 academic year.

In alignment with the government’s goal of achieving “ZERO road traffic fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global vision of “ZERO traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles” by 2050, Honda Vietnam (HVN) is proud to partner with the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training. Together, they will donate 1.8 million certified helmets to first-grade students nationwide during the 2025-2026 academic year and conduct traffic safety training for students and parents.

The program aims to:

Instill the habit of wearing helmets among motorcycle users in Vietnam, thereby increasing the rate of helmet usage to meet national technical standards to 100%

Enhance traffic safety awareness among students and parents through training and communication activities

This meaningful initiative stems from the recognition of the critical role that certified helmets play in protecting road users. For first-grade students, a crucial age for developing cognitive habits, establishing the routine of wearing certified helmets while riding motorcycles is essential.

This significant and practical effort builds upon the “Helmet Donation Program for First-Grade Students,” initiated by Honda Vietnam, the National Traffic Safety Committee, and the Ministry of Education and Training in 2018.

To date, nearly 12 million helmets have been distributed—a remarkable and convincing testament to HVN’s commitment to supporting the government in achieving national traffic safety goals. Additionally, the program has significantly impacted the awareness and habit of wearing certified helmets among first-grade students nationwide. The helmet usage rate among children has increased from 37% (before the 2018-2019 academic year) to 85% (in the 2024-2025 academic year).

Kicking off the 2025-2026 nationwide helmet donation program, the first helmet donation event combined with traffic safety training for parents and students was successfully held on October 2, 2025, at Van Bao Primary School in Hanoi. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Le Kim Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan An Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Students and Youth, MOET; Ms. Trinh Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of General Education, MOET; Major General Nguyen Van Mung, Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security; and Mr. Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Japan; Mr. Noriya Kaihara, Senior Managing Officer of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Japan; Mr. Toshio Kuwahara, President and CEO of Honda Motor Asia; and Ms. Sayaka Arai, General Director of Honda Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Japan, emphasized: “Our key objective is to cultivate the habit of wearing helmets among motorcycle users in Vietnam. To achieve this, we will continue to provide traffic safety training for students and parents and raise awareness through communication activities. Honda believes that the certified helmets donated by HVN will become trusted companions for students, protecting them on every journey.”

During the program, the parties agreed to and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the following key points:

100% of first-grade students nationwide will receive certified helmets from HVN

Enhanced training and knowledge-sharing on traffic safety, risk prediction, and avoidance skills for students and parents

HVN hopes that through the 2025-2026 helmet donation events, over 1.8 million students and 350,000 parents will receive training in safe traffic participation knowledge and skills. This will contribute to realizing the Vietnamese government’s goal of “ZERO road traffic fatalities” by 2045 and Honda’s global vision of “ZERO traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles” by 2050.
