Of the 4,038 Ford GTs produced between 2005 and 2006, the 2006 Heritage Edition No.3 stands out as a truly special variant. It holds the distinction of being the first Heritage model unveiled to the public, marking the beginning of Ford’s series honoring its legendary racing heritage.
Despite only 343 Heritage Editions being manufactured in 2006, the No.3 model transcends its collectible status. Notably, the first two Heritage units were retained by Ford for internal purposes, making No.3 the inaugural Heritage Edition delivered to a customer. Remarkably, this vehicle has remained largely untouched, residing in storage and is now set for auction in near-original condition.
The 2006 Heritage Edition pays homage to Ford’s triumphant victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the late 1960s, where the iconic Gulf-liveried GT40s secured wins in 1968 and 1969.
Adorned in the legendary Gulf Blue and Orange livery, the GT Heritage features distinctive racing stripes, white circles, and heritage badges, setting it apart from standard Ford GT models.
Inside, the cabin retains a minimalist design with black leather seats embossed with the GT logo, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a pure analog driving experience.
Under the hood, the Ford GT Heritage Edition No.3 is powered by a supercharged 5.4L V8 engine delivering 550 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This vehicle embodies the philosophy of reviving the spirit of the legendary GT40 with 21st-century engineering excellence.
More than just a limited-edition supercar, No.3 was owned by Ford Motor Company for official marketing and media activities. It featured prominently in advertising materials, brand events, and played a pivotal role in Ford’s campaign to celebrate its Le Mans legacy.
The vehicle comes with a certificate of authenticity, original manufacturing manuals, and comprehensive documentation tracing its journey from the assembly line to its printed components, offering unparalleled historical value for collectors.
Despite being primarily stored and used only for testing, the No.3 GT has accumulated 8,435 miles (approximately 13,500 km). Its history includes two minor incidents: a rear collision in November 2005 and undercarriage damage from a minor rollover in October 2006. Neither incident significantly impacted the vehicle, consistent with its use in internal media activities.
The 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is highly sought after by collectors. Market prices for Heritage models range from $640,000 to over $1,000,000 (16.86 – 26.3 billion VND), with a common listing price of around $679,000 (17.89 billion VND).
However, given its status as the first Heritage Edition delivered to a customer, its Ford ownership history, low mileage, and complete documentation, No.3 is expected to surpass $1 million (26.3 billion VND) at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, listed as lot “2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition No. 3.”
