On the sidelines of the new E-Class launch, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (MBV) revealed that the brand will expand its “green” vehicle lineup, particularly focusing on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the Vietnamese market.

The first model in this initiative is the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400e 4MATIC, marking a significant shift in the German brand’s electrification strategy.

Before MBV’s official announcement, several local dealerships had already started accepting deposits for the GLE 400e. Insider information confirms that the vehicle has arrived in Vietnam and is undergoing final registration procedures before its official launch. Deliveries to customers are expected to begin in 2025.

In terms of pricing, the GLE 400e is anticipated to be slightly higher than the previous GLE 450 (priced at VND 3.999 billion), likely exceeding VND 4 billion upon release.

The 2025 GLE 400e 4MATIC features Mercedes-Benz’s latest PHEV powertrain, combining a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine (252 hp) with an electric motor (136 hp). Together, they deliver a total output of 381 hp, matching the previous GLE 450’s performance while significantly improving fuel efficiency.

It is equipped with a fourth-generation lithium-ion battery, boasting a capacity of over 30 kWh. This enables the GLE 400e to travel nearly 100 km on electric power alone, an impressive feat for a mid-size luxury SUV. This allows daily urban commuting without engaging the gasoline engine.

When the battery is depleted, the vehicle automatically switches to Hybrid mode, utilizing both power sources to ensure optimal performance and range. Additionally, drivers can select from various driving modes, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual, and Offroad.

In Vietnam’s mid-size luxury SUV segment, the PHEV market is becoming increasingly competitive, with notable rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid (starting from VND 6.33 billion) and the Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge (starting from VND 4.37 billion).

Compared to its competitors, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400e offers a longer electric range and a more competitive price point, targeting customers seeking hybrid technology without a significant premium over other high-end German SUVs.
