On October 2, 2018, VinFast unveiled its first two models – Lux A2.0 and Lux SA2.0 – at the Paris Motor Show, featuring David Beckham and Miss Tran Tieu Vy. This marked Vietnam’s debut on the global automotive map.
In just over a year, the brand completed both models, earning international acclaim as a “Vietnamese miracle.”
Shortly after, VinFast launched the Fadil, quickly becoming one of Vietnam’s top-selling car brands in 2020–2021, averaging 30,000 units annually. The Fadil sold 24,128 units in 2021, earning the title of “the people’s car.”
October 15, 2021, marked a pivotal moment for Vietnam’s automotive industry as VinFast introduced the VF e34 – the first commercially available electric vehicle developed by a Vietnamese company.
This C-segment SUV, the VinFast VF e34, features a lithium battery with a 285 km range per charge, backed by a 10-year warranty and flexible battery rental. Its starting price of 690 million VND introduced a new approach, making electric vehicles accessible to Vietnamese consumers for the first time.
In 2021, VinFast sold a total of 35,723 vehicles, including 24,128 Fadil, 6,330 Lux A2.0, 5,180 Lux SA2.0, and 85 VF e34 units.
In 2022, VinFast launched the VF 8 and VF 9 – D and E-segment SUVs – positioning them as flagship models. These vehicles debuted not only in Vietnam but also in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, showcasing the brand’s global ambitions.
By late 2022, VinFast discontinued its gasoline models – Fadil, Lux A2.0, Lux SA2.0, and President – to focus on electric vehicles. That year, VinFast introduced additional electric models across segments: VF 8 (D-segment), VF 9 (E-segment), and VF 5 Plus (A-segment).
In 2022, VinFast’s electric vehicle sales reached approximately 7,400 units, including around 4,000 VF e34 and 3,200 VF 8 units.
In 2023, VinFast delivered 34,855 electric vehicles, a 374% increase from the previous year.
In 2024, VinFast launched the VF 3 – a mini electric vehicle priced from just 235 million VND, equivalent to two high-end scooters. Its battery rental policy and affordable operating costs made the VF 3 an instant hit, significantly expanding the customer base, especially first-time car buyers.
By the end of 2024, VinFast delivered 97,399 electric vehicles, a 192% increase from 2023, showcasing strong growth and market acceptance.
In early 2025, VinFast introduced its Green electric vehicle lineup for commercial services, including Minio Green, Limo Green, Herio Green, Nerio Green, and the EC Van urban delivery vehicle. The Minio Green and Limo Green are entirely new models, expanding the brand’s presence into mini and MPV segments, covering nearly all green mobility sectors.
In the first nine months of 2025, VinFast delivered 103,884 vehicles, surpassing 2024’s total and becoming the first Vietnamese brand to sell over 100,000 electric vehicles in three quarters. Cumulatively, VinFast has sold over 243,000 electric vehicles, setting a new industry record.
The VF 3 and VF 5 were the top contributors, with the VF 5 selling around 32,000 units and the VF 3 selling 25,000 units in 2024, outperforming traditional gasoline models like the Mitsubishi Xpander (19,400 units) and Ford Ranger (17,500 units).
Beyond Vietnam, VinFast is expanding into Asia and Western markets. In Asia, the brand focuses on India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Its Indian factory, with a 150,000-unit capacity, has opened, while the Indonesian facility, with a 50,000-unit capacity, is under construction. VinFast vehicles are also present in Laos, Thailand, and the Philippines, primarily as Green SM electric taxis.
In the U.S., VinFast is investing billions in a 150,000-unit capacity factory, set to open in 2028. The brand is also expanding its distribution network in Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, solidifying its global presence.
Four years after the VF e34’s launch, VinFast has transformed from a pioneer into a symbol of Vietnam’s electric vehicle industry, offering a range from mini cars to luxury SUVs and aiming for global dominance.
From its bold beginnings to today’s impressive figures, VinFast’s journey exemplifies Vietnam’s automotive industry’s ambition and rapid growth.
