The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, unveiled in 2020, stands as the high-performance variant of the iconic Chiron hypercar, a masterpiece from the French automotive marque.

With only 60 units produced globally, each Pur Sport is a coveted treasure in the supercar realm, not just for its exorbitant ownership cost but also for the staggering expenses incurred in the event of damage.

Recently, a Chiron Pur Sport suffered a severe accident in the U.S. after colliding with a pickup truck. The impact left the front end extensively damaged, while the rear remained remarkably intact. The incident swiftly captured global attention, particularly when Matt Armstrong, a British YouTuber renowned for his supercar restoration projects, flew to Miami to assess the vehicle’s condition.

Upon receiving the parts quotation, Armstrong was stunned. The repair costs included: a carbon fiber hood priced at €50,000 (€153 million VND), a horseshoe-shaped grille at €80,000 (€246 million VND), and the most expensive items—LED headlights and wheel arch panels—each costing €150,000 (€461 million VND).

Preliminary inspections revealed damage to the carbon monocoque chassis, potentially leading the insurance company to declare the vehicle a “total loss.” The collision’s force was significant, deploying both front airbags and the driver’s knee airbag, necessitating a complete replacement of the steering wheel, dashboard, and safety systems.

The vehicle was nearly new, with just 5,617 km on the odometer, indicating the current owner had added only 320 km since acquisition.

Post-accident, the Chiron Pur Sport was auctioned in Poland, listed as having a “damaged gearbox,” with a starting bid of €2.1 million (approximately €64.6 billion VND)—half the market value of an undamaged model.

Powering the Chiron Pur Sport is the formidable W16 8.0L quad-turbocharged engine, delivering 1,500 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque. Thanks to a refined gearbox with shorter gear ratios, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 350 km/h.

Despite its unfortunate accident, this Chiron Pur Sport remains a testament to Bugatti’s unparalleled exclusivity and opulence, where even the smallest components are priced akin to an entire supercar.
