A Colorado man miraculously survived a harrowing ordeal after his Ford F-150 plummeted over 300 feet into a rugged canyon, escaping with only minor injuries.

According to Ouray Mountain Rescue, the accident occurred on October 9th along the infamous Million Dollar Highway. Renowned as one of America’s most treacherous roads, this route features narrow lanes, sharp hairpin turns, lack of guardrails, and frequent fog and snow conditions.

The 12th-generation Ford F-150 driven by the man reportedly lost control, careening down the steep, boulder-strewn Uncompahgre Gorge. Upon arrival, rescuers found the severely mangled truck upside down on the rocks, yet the sole occupant remained conscious and sustained only minor injuries.

A coordinated high-angle rope rescue operation involving Ouray County EMS, Ouray Volunteer Fire Department, and Ouray Mountain Rescue Team was executed to extricate the victim. Rescuers rappelled down the sheer cliffs to reach and secure the injured man.

Images from the scene quickly went viral, sparking thousands of comments. Many expressed astonishment at the man’s survival, with some jokingly suggesting he “buy a lottery ticket immediately upon hospital discharge.” Surviving a fall equivalent to a 30-story drop onto solid rock defies typical odds.

The incident reignited safety concerns about the Million Dollar Highway, a scenic yet perilous route lacking adequate safety barriers. Simultaneously, it highlighted the remarkable durability of the Ford F-150.

The Ford F-150, America’s iconic pickup truck and perennial bestseller, saw its 12th generation produced from 2009-2014, offering robust V6 and V8 engine options. Now in its 14th generation, the F-150 continues to evolve with modern innovations, including the all-electric F-150 Lightning, showcasing Ford’s adaptability in the era of sustainable transportation.
