In early October 2025, several provinces and cities in Vietnam experienced severe flooding due to the impact of typhoons No. 10 and No. 11, causing significant material damage. Among the casualties were hundreds of cars submerged and damaged, leaving their owners reeling from the repair costs. The cases of two vehicles, a Suzuki XL7 and a Mitsubishi Xforce, serve as prime examples.

Images shared by the owner reveal that the dealership listed 81 items requiring repair on the Suzuki XL7. The compact MPV needed replacements for numerous components, including the speedometer, infotainment screen, headlights, speakers, central control unit, accelerator pedal, wheel bearings, steering column, lithium battery, air conditioning fan, heater, automatic transmission, automatic transmission control unit, left/right mirrors, and door locks.

The most expensive item on the list was the automatic transmission, priced at VND 118 million. Other costly components included the lithium battery (VND 30 million), integrated starter (VND 29.5 million), steering column (VND 24.7 million), automatic transmission control unit (VND 21.7 million), cylinder head (VND 20.8 million), electronic stability system (VND 16.7 million), heater (VND 14 million), speedometer (VND 12 million), and steering wheel airbag (VND 11.7 million).

The total cost of replacement parts for the Suzuki XL7 amounted to VND 562 million, with an additional VND 20.5 million for labor. The overall repair cost for this compact MPV reached VND 583 million, plus VND 46.6 million in VAT, totaling VND 629.6 million.

Remarkably, the repair cost for this Suzuki XL7 surpasses the price of a new vehicle. The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid, freshly launched in Vietnam, is priced between VND 600 million and VND 608 million, depending on the paint color.

Next is the Mitsubishi Xforce, with nearly 90 items requiring repair, including the window motor, light relay, wireless charger, front/rear USB ports, light sensor, and numerous switches. The total repair cost for this B-segment SUV is VND 499.3 million, plus VND 40.1 million in taxes, totaling VND 539.4 million.

The repair cost is nearly equivalent to the price of a new Mitsubishi Xforce. The B-segment SUV’s list price in Vietnam ranges from VND 599 million to VND 705 million across four variants.

After surfacing online, the repair estimate images for both the Suzuki XL7 and Mitsubishi Xforce garnered hundreds of comments. Many speculate that the owners will opt to sell the vehicles at a low price rather than repair them.

Over VND 500 million to repair, and it’s still a flood-damaged car. Better to sell the wreck for a hundred million and use the remaining VND 500 million to buy a new one. You get a new car without worrying about flood damage, and it’s still factory-fresh when reselling,” commented N.H.S. “Buy a new car and keep the old one for spare parts,” suggested P.T. “Just keep the shell and replace everything else,” wrote L.Đ.A. “Probably just printing the invoice for show, but the car is likely already sold,” predicted P.K. “Sell the wreck and buy a new car,” advised M.A. “Sell it as scrap metal and add the money to buy a new one,” agreed H.P.
