Ahead of its official launch, Toyota has released a teaser video for the new generation of the 2026 Hilux pickup truck.
While still built on the renowned IMV platform, known for its durability and load-bearing capacity, the 2026 Hilux is expected to undergo a complete design overhaul. Previously leaked images reveal a completely new front and rear end, featuring a more squared-off, muscular design that aligns with Toyota’s latest design language.
The interior has also been refreshed with a multi-layered layout, incorporating angular details inspired by the Land Cruiser Prado, along with a flat gearshift design similar to the Land Cruiser FJ.
Powering the new 2026 Hilux are expected to be the familiar 2.4L (2GD-FTV) and 2.8L (1GD-FTV) turbodiesel engines, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and available in rear-wheel or part-time 4WD configurations.
However, in response to increasingly stringent emission standards, Toyota is rumored to accelerate its electrification efforts, potentially equipping the vehicle with a 48V mild-hybrid system for its internal combustion engine variants.
As the ninth generation, the Hilux is anticipated to mark a significant milestone with the introduction of its first fully electric version, alongside the traditional diesel options. This EV variant will directly compete with upcoming rivals like the Isuzu D-Max EV, ushering in a new era of electrification for mid-size pickup trucks.
The vehicle is scheduled to debut in Thailand on November 10th, under the name Hilux Travo.
