For Dr. Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, a recent trip to Vietnam left a profound impression of a nation’s commitment to green transformation.

The technology and public policy expert at Indonesia’s Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) was particularly inspired by Vingroup’s pioneering spirit, seeing the Vietnamese conglomerate as a regional symbol of transformative change.

Pillars of a “Green Civilization”

“I’m truly impressed by Vingroup’s vision and mission,” shared Dr. Yannes, a senior researcher at Indonesia’s National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology.

According to him, in a short span, Vingroup achieved what many only dream of: building a vibrant ecosystem that blends innovation, ambition, and sustainability. “This proves that with vision and determination, a company can shape the future at an unprecedented pace,” he stated.

From Dr. Yannes’ perspective, Vingroup is more than a diversified conglomerate; it’s a “regional symbol of transformation.”

As an experienced green transportation researcher, Dr. Yannes highlights VinFast’s unique approach compared to other automakers. He notes that VinFast goes beyond electric vehicle production, serving as the “heartbeat” of Vingroup’s comprehensive green transition—spanning clean energy, green infrastructure, and electrified transportation. “This isn’t just an industrial strategy but a roadmap for a green civilization,” he remarked.

Broader still, Vingroup’s ecosystem—from battery production and electric vehicles to renewable energy and high-tech education—connects science, people, and markets across sectors.

Dr. Yannes believes Vingroup’s holistic vision not only builds industries but also a future where technology, energy, and humanity thrive together. “In the near future, Vingroup will be Southeast Asia’s key pillar in green energy and industry,” he predicted.

“Southeast Asia, Why Not?”

For decades, Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s auto markets were dominated by Japanese and Korean brands. Dr. Yannes sees VinFast ushering in a new era, posing a bold question: “Southeast Asia, why not?”

As the first ASEAN brand to go global in electric vehicles, VinFast symbolizes a “new Asia” with the technology, finance, and talent to compete globally.

“VinFast can become ASEAN’s ‘flagbearer’—representing limitless creativity, confidence, and strategic vision to lead humanity into a green industrial era,” Dr. Yannes affirmed.

In Indonesia, VinFast is gaining recognition, especially through its “green taxis” using electric vehicles. This reflects the company’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible.

Beyond scale, Dr. Yannes sees strategic alignment between Vingroup and Indonesia. “Indonesia’s focus on electric vehicles, clean energy, and Industry 4.0 workforce development aligns perfectly with Vingroup’s initiatives,” he observed.

If Japan Has Toyota, South Korea Hyundai, Southeast Asia Has VinFast

For Dr. Yannes, Vingroup’s story transcends Vietnam’s success. “If Japan has Toyota, South Korea Hyundai, Southeast Asia can have VinFast,” he declared.

“This proves our region isn’t just a consumer but a creator, innovator, and value-shaper, showing that the future of green industry can be written from this side of the world,” he added.

Dr. Yannes believes Southeast Asia seeks not just an automaker but an ecosystem linking energy, technology, and people. Vingroup’s closed-loop ecosystem, comprehensive green vision, and global ambition, he argues, will position ASEAN as a global leader in the green industrial era.

Specifically in Indonesia, he praises Vingroup’s solar energy, battery storage, and electric mobility strategy. “The ‘green island’ model—combining renewables with electric transport—fits Indonesia’s sustainable development goals perfectly.”

In fact, Vingroup signed an MoU with Indonesia’s PT. Sulsel Andalan Energi in South Sulawesi to collaborate on large-scale solar projects. Both parties will jointly research, develop, and explore sustainable business opportunities.

Vingroup and PT. Sulsel Andalan Energi are also surveying sites for solar projects, integrating storage solutions, and planning grid connections.

“After their first life cycle, EV batteries can store solar energy,” Dr. Yannes noted. “This new billion-dollar industry is where Vingroup’s vision, technology, and capability can lead.”
