Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce has announced a special incentive for its electric vehicle, the Spectre.
However, the incentive offered by Rolls-Royce for this electric model is largely symbolic and unlikely to sway the decisions of the ultra-wealthy.
Amid the expiration of U.S. electric vehicle tax credits, Rolls-Royce has introduced a $5,000 leasing incentive for the Spectre. Given the vehicle’s starting price of approximately $422,000, this amount is comparable to a minor customization option and barely impacts the overall cost for buyers.
Industry experts view this move as symbolic, more of a response to the growing trend of incentives in the electric vehicle market than a genuine commercial strategy. Rolls-Royce customers typically spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on personalization, from bespoke paint colors and interior materials to exclusive handcrafted details, which remain the brand’s primary profit drivers.
According to Cars Direct, this incentive was internally communicated by Rolls-Royce to its U.S. dealership network. The $5,000 offer applies to 2025 and 2026 Spectre models leased before November 30, with an annual interest rate of approximately 4.6%.
Previously, Rolls-Royce offered a higher incentive of $7,500, but it has since been reduced to $5,000. Even with this adjustment, the total ownership cost of the Spectre in the U.S. remains higher than during the federal EV tax credit period, which has since expired.
It’s important to note that neither the expired tax credit nor the current $5,000 incentive applies to cash purchases, only to financed leases.
Launched in 2023, the Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s first all-electric vehicle, marking a significant step toward a zero-emission product lineup. Built on the aluminum Architecture of Luxury platform, shared with the Phantom and Cullinan, the Spectre is optimized for electric propulsion.
The Spectre is available in two variants: the standard model delivers 577 horsepower, while the Black Badge version offers up to 650 horsepower. Both feature a 120 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 266 miles.
Despite intense price competition in the global electric vehicle market, ultra-luxury brands like Rolls-Royce maintain their exclusivity. For them, “discounts” are not about attracting new customers but about adapting within limits to sustain sales in a volatile market.
