The Mitsubishi Outlander has officially disappeared from Mitsubishi Vietnam’s website product lineup.
Mitsubishi dealerships nationwide have stopped accepting deposits for this model for several months. Currently, inventory levels are nearly depleted, and the company has not announced any plans to restock. This indicates that the Outlander has reached the final stage of its lifecycle in the Vietnamese market.
The Outlander’s sales decline has been consistent since the beginning of the year. In September and October, no Outlander units were delivered. Prior to that, only 35 units were sold in August. Cumulatively, from the start of the year, the model has recorded sales of 362 units.
The mid-size SUV segment is fiercely competitive, with models constantly being upgraded, discounted, or equipped with new technology to maintain appeal. While competitors have been actively evolving, the Outlander has remained largely unchanged for years.
Globally, Mitsubishi has launched the fourth-generation Outlander with a completely new design, a more modern cabin, advanced active safety technologies, and notably, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option. However, the version sold in Vietnam remains the third generation. The outdated Outlander no longer meets the increasingly high standards of consumers, causing it to lose ground to Japanese, Korean, and emerging Chinese competitors with more extensive features.
According to the plan, on December 1st, Mitsubishi Vietnam will unveil the all-new mid-size 7-seater CUV named the Mitsubishi Destinator. Although the company has not directly stated it, this model is effectively the successor to the Outlander.
The Destinator is built on a new platform, featuring a more modern design, a spacious interior, and a suite of advanced safety technologies.
By introducing a completely new product instead of continuing with the outdated Outlander, Mitsubishi has taken an appropriate step to regain competitiveness in the C-SUV segment. This segment is characterized by rapidly changing consumer demands and the strong presence of well-localized competitors or imported vehicles from China.
