Yangwang U8L Unscathed After Palm Tree Falls Directly on Its Roof

In this rigorous test, the manufacturer repeatedly dropped a large royal palm tree onto the roof of the Yangwang U8L, increasing the height with each drop to amplify the force. According to YangWang, the most severe impact generated 50.4 kJ of energy, equivalent to 40,100 lb-ft or 54,000 Nm—comparable to an air conditioning unit falling from the 40th floor.

Despite the intense force, the U8L remained unscathed. While the cant rail above the door showed a dent, the pillars remained undeformed, the driver’s door opened effortlessly, the glass stayed intact, and the suspension and wheels suffered no damage.

YangWang stated that the test aimed to evaluate the vehicle’s ability to maintain its protective structure, ensuring passenger evacuation and easy access for rescue teams in extreme situations. Remarkably, the U8L started and continued driving immediately after the test.

The Yangwang U8L is an extended variant of the standard U8, the brand’s first SUV. Officially named the Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition, this new model not only boasts larger dimensions but also features luxurious upgrades tailored for premium customers.

Powering the vehicle is a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine paired with four independent electric motors, one for each wheel, delivering a combined output of 1,180 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,280 Nm. This setup enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.6 seconds and a hybrid range of up to 1,000 km.
