On December 8th, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) announced that the AI camera system piloted at the Pham Van Bach – Hoang Quoc Viet intersection detected 703 cases of red-light running between 12:00 PM on December 6th and 12:00 PM on December 7th.
During the same period, an AI camera on Le Van Luong Street identified 8 instances of lane violations. All data has been forwarded to the Hanoi City Police for processing according to regulations.
At the 20km mark of the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway, the AI camera system recorded an average vehicle speed of approximately 70 km/h and detected 2 cases of drivers not wearing seatbelts.
According to Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia, Head of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, authorities are accelerating digital transformation in traffic management, including the development of an Intelligent Traffic Command and Control Center. The center has been upgraded to Phase 2 and is expected to operate a system of 1,837 AI-enabled cameras and traffic lights from December 10th, allowing automatic control based on real-time traffic flow.
Colonel Nghia stated that the system aims not only to support automated fines but also to reduce congestion, modernize infrastructure, enhance management efficiency, and foster a civilized urban lifestyle. The AI camera system will automatically detect common violations such as red-light running, lane violations, and improper parking.
