There are approximately 15 Mazda RX-8 units in Vietnam, but spotting them on the streets is a rare occurrence. A significant portion of these vehicles are part of Dang Le Nguyen Vu’s private collection, rarely driven, while others remain parked in garages or, sadly, abandoned in desolate areas.
Recently, one such Mazda RX-8 was discovered in a seemingly neglected state. At first glance, its exterior appears well-maintained, but the absence of a license plate suggests it may have been removed by the owner. The car was found parked on a vacant lot, surrounded by overgrown grass, leaving many to wonder about its unfortunate fate.
This particular Mazda RX-8 boasts a vibrant orange exterior, complemented by a black grille and rear bumper, creating a cohesive look. It rides on a set of sleek 5-spoke aftermarket wheels, perfectly accentuating the flared wheel arches.
One of the RX-8’s most distinctive features is its symmetrical front and rear door design, reminiscent of Rolls-Royce models. However, what sets it apart is the absence of a B-pillar, adding to its unique appeal.
As a sports-oriented model from two decades ago, expecting modern amenities in the RX-8 is unrealistic. However, it does feature a high-quality Bose sound system. The rear seats are somewhat cramped, but the absence of a B-pillar facilitates easier access for rear passengers.
The Mazda RX-8 is powered by Renesis’ rotary engine, with a 1.3-liter displacement, initially producing 189 horsepower and later increased to 238 horsepower in the 2008-2012 models.
This engine offers financial advantages to Japanese consumers, as its displacement remains under 1.5 liters, a crucial factor in Japan’s annual road tax calculations. Depending on the market, the RX-8 is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission.
