On December 18, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) announced the approval of the plan to organize the 9th auction of vehicle license plates, totaling over 2.52 million plates from 34 localities nationwide.
Among these, approximately 591,000 are car license plates, and over 1.9 million are motorcycle license plates. The list has been publicly posted on the Ministry of Public Security’s e-portal and the Traffic Police Department’s website for public reference. According to regulations, one month after the posting, the Traffic Police Department will collaborate with Vietnam Auction Joint Stock Company (VPA) to officially launch the 9th auction.
Currently, relevant units are still conducting the 8th license plate auction, which began on October 20. As of now, the 8th auction has successfully sold nearly 46,000 plates, generating approximately 1.7 trillion VND in revenue.
In 2025 alone, license plate auctions have contributed around 5.2 trillion VND to the state budget. Notably, many five-digit car plates continue to fetch auction prices in the tens of billions of VND, highlighting the significant public interest in this auction format.
Since the inception of license plate auctions, the total revenue has reached approximately 9.6 trillion VND, becoming a substantial source of income for the state budget.
