It may sound hard to believe, but the current generation of the Mitsubishi Delica D:5 has been on the Japanese market since 2007. Instead of launching an entirely new generation in 2026, Mitsubishi has opted for a mid-life refresh, extending the lifespan of one of Japan’s most enduring and unique MPVs.

Evolution of the Mitsubishi Delica D:5’s design over nearly 19 years.
The updated Mitsubishi Delica D:5 retains its familiar silhouette, featuring the signature Dynamic Shield front design and distinctive layered LED headlights. However, notable refinements to the grille, front bumper, and underbody protection enhance its sleek appearance while amplifying its off-road character.

From the side, the vehicle showcases pronounced changes, including extended wheel arch cladding, black trim along the door sills, and new 18-inch alloy wheels with a dual-tone, 7-spoke design. The rear has been refreshed with a redesigned bumper, integrated underbody protection, and a new tailgate garnish featuring a block-style “Delica” inscription.

The overall dimensions remain unchanged, with a length of 4,800 mm and a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, positioning it firmly in the mid-size MPV segment, comparable to the Toyota Innova Cross available in Vietnam.

Inside, the most notable upgrade is the new 8-inch digital instrument cluster. This complements the existing 10.1-inch infotainment screen, which remains positioned on the center console. The interior layout is unchanged, featuring three rows of seating accommodating up to eight passengers.

Additional interior enhancements include subtle metallic accents on the dashboard, ambient roof lighting, and seats upholstered in a combination of water-resistant suede, fabric, and leather. Four USB-C ports and refined ADAS sensors further elevate the cabin experience.

Customers can personalize the Delica D:5 with official accessories and two optional packages. The Wild Adventure Style adds black exterior accents, RAYS wheels, red mud flaps, and a roof basket. The Active Adventure Style offers a sportier aesthetic with Sand Metallic highlights, exclusive decals, a roof spoiler, and aerodynamic roof rails.
Under the hood, the 2026 Delica D:5 retains its 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine, now producing 143 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque—a slight reduction from the previous model. The engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Mitsubishi has refined the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system to enhance traction and stability on rough terrain.
Drivers can select from Eco, Normal, Gravel, and Snow driving modes. Additional features include hill descent control, Active Yaw Control (AYC), and high-performance brakes. Mitsubishi has not announced changes to the suspension or chassis.
The 2026 Mitsubishi Delica D:5 will arrive at Japanese dealerships in January 2026, priced between ¥4,510,000 and ¥4,944,500 (approximately $37,000–$40,500). According to Japan’s Creative Trend, the new model garnered 5,000 pre-orders immediately after its debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in November 2025, with 80% opting for the top-tier variant.
In Japan, the Delica D:5 is Mitsubishi’s second best-selling model, trailing only the Delica Mini. In a recent interview with Best Car, Mitsubishi Chairman Takao Kato confirmed that the company is considering a new generation, the Delica D:6. This successor may feature a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or fully electric powertrain, aligning with evolving market trends.
Currently, no direct competitor combines the versatility of an MPV with off-road capabilities like the Delica D:5. Its closest rivals include the Toyota Noah/Voxy, Honda Step WGN, and Nissan Serena.
