It also enhances the Group’s production and distribution capabilities for key global markets. This is a powerful testament to Piaggio’s long-term vision, unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, and appreciation for Vietnamese talent and potential.
The 2 millionth milestone is commemorated with a Vespa model produced at the Piaggio Phu Tho Factory.
A Significant Production Milestone for Piaggio Phu Tho Factory
December 2025 marks a new chapter as the Piaggio Phu Tho Factory officially reaches the 2 million vehicle production milestone. From 2019 to 2025, the factory’s production capacity has grown robustly, enabling Piaggio Vietnam to double its output in just 6 years, compared to the first 1 million vehicles produced between 2009 and 2019. This achievement reaffirms the Phu Tho Factory’s pivotal role in Piaggio’s global production and distribution ecosystem for scooters, engines, and parts under the Piaggio, Vespa, and Aprilia brands. The factory efficiently meets demand from strategic markets, not only in the Asia-Pacific region but also in Europe and the Americas.
Throughout its 18 years in Vietnam, the Piaggio Phu Tho Factory has collaborated with Piaggio’s headquarters in Italy to uphold the Group’s 141-year heritage: Italian craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology, and rigorous quality control processes. Each product from Piaggio Vietnam embodies a harmonious blend of Vietnamese craftsmanship and Italian quality standards, creating unique value that reinforces the brand’s prestige in the international market.
Piaggio applies stringent Quality Control standards across all production stages, from product design and manufacturing to services.
18 Years of Impressive Growth
In 2019, the Phu Tho Factory achieved its 1 millionth scooter production milestone after 10 years of operation. This occurred amid rising demand for premium scooters in Vietnam and the region, reflecting a clear consumer shift toward European-designed products with higher safety standards and superior performance.
The period from 2019 to 2025 was also a standout growth phase for the Piaggio Group in the Asia-Pacific region, with impressive business results in key markets. High demand spurred the development of an investment plan to enhance and expand production capacity in Vietnam, including a new investment certificate for the Phu Tho Factory. The expansion plan focused on increasing scooter, engine, and parts production, boosting annual capacity from 250,000 to 400,000 units. The “Made in Vietnam” product lines from Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, and the innovative iGet engine technology not only stand out in design but also consistently meet international emission standards from Euro 3 to Euro 5+, along with other market-specific technical requirements. This enables Piaggio Vietnam to effectively serve both domestic and global consumers.
Vietnam: Piaggio’s Strategic Hub in Asia
As Europe’s leading motorcycle manufacturer, Piaggio was established in Vietnam in October 2007 with 100% Italian investment. The Phu Tho Factory now serves as Piaggio’s regional headquarters in Asia and a strategic hub for the Group’s operations, employing over 1,000 skilled workers. The Piaggio Phu Tho complex includes a large-scale assembly plant, a modern engine production facility, and the only Piaggio Research & Development (R&D) center in Southeast Asia. After 18 years of investment, Piaggio Vietnam has become a leading FDI model in Vietnam, consistently pioneering advanced technologies. Notably, Piaggio was the first motorcycle manufacturer in Vietnam to introduce the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) in 2015, swiftly applying it across all product lines from entry-level to premium segments. The Phu Tho Factory has also been the launchpad for many strategic product generations, with some models debuting in Vietnam before being exported to international markets.
Mr. Gianluca Fiume emphasizes the central role of “People” in Piaggio’s operational strategies.
The 2 million vehicle production milestone also reflects Piaggio’s continuous investment in fostering a people-centric environment. People are considered a key factor and the “Fifth Brand” alongside Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, and Moto Guzzi. The dedication, commitment, and responsibility of the workforce have laid the foundation for Piaggio Vietnam’s achievements today. Piaggio Vietnam also contributes to the local community through production activities, job creation, and social responsibility initiatives. These efforts have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Great Place To Work 2025 Certification, HR Asia’s “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” for six consecutive years, four Golden Dragon Awards for outstanding FDI enterprises, the “For the Cause of Vietnam’s Planning and Investment Sector” Medal from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification from Vietnam Customs.
