Yamaha Unveils Next-Gen NMAX in Vietnam: Starting at 69 Million VND

The scooter is available in two versions: Standard and Tech Max, with suggested retail prices of 69 million VND and 79 million VND, respectively (VAT included).

As a mid-sized maxi-scooter, the NMAX is designed by Yamaha to meet the versatile urban commuting needs while ensuring comfort for longer rides compared to standard scooters. In this new iteration, Yamaha maintains the core philosophy of the NMAX, focusing on enhancing practicality for daily use and incorporating advanced technology to improve the riding experience.

In terms of design, the Yamaha NMAX 2026 continues its maxi-scooter styling with robust panels, a substantial body, and LED lighting front and rear. Subtle refinements to the exterior create a more streamlined and modern appearance, while signature elements like the boomerang-shaped side panels are retained for brand recognition. The Tech Max variant enhances its premium feel through refined details on the seat and instrument cluster, rather than significant external design changes.

Rider comfort is a key focus for Yamaha. The dual-tiered seat design ensures a comfortable riding position for both the rider and passenger, especially on long journeys. The under-seat storage is spacious enough for a helmet and features a mechanism to keep the seat open while loading, enhancing convenience. Additionally, the scooter includes a front storage compartment and a fuel tank cap located at the front, allowing for refueling without opening the seat—a practical feature for urban use.

Technologically and safety-wise, the new generation Yamaha NMAX is equipped with a combined instrument cluster featuring a 4.2-inch color TFT screen and an LCD display. The Tech Max version supports navigation via Garmin StreetCross, a significant advantage for urban commuters or those navigating unfamiliar routes. Standard safety features include front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS and a Traction Control System (TCS), enhancing safety on slippery surfaces or in adverse weather conditions.

The suspension system has been refined, with a 5 mm increase in rear shock travel. This enhancement improves ride comfort and stability, particularly when carrying heavy loads or traveling long distances. The NMAX 2026 also comes with a range of daily-use conveniences, including a Smart Key system, Stop & Start engine technology, a USB Type-C charging port, helmet hooks, and multiple small storage spaces for personal items.

Powering the NMAX 2026 is a 155cc Blue Core liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. Both versions deliver 15.15 horsepower and a maximum torque of 14.2 Nm. The primary difference lies in fuel efficiency, with the Standard version achieving 2.26 liters/100 km in mixed conditions, while the Tech Max consumes slightly more at 2.3 liters/100 km due to its operational configuration.

A notable upgrade in the new NMAX is the electronically controlled YECVT transmission, available on the Tech Max variant. Unlike traditional CVT systems, YECVT offers two driving modes: T-Mode prioritizes smoothness and fuel efficiency, ideal for congested urban traffic, while S-Mode maintains higher RPM for improved acceleration, useful for overtaking or open roads. The system also includes an active downshift feature, enhancing engine braking control and providing a more responsive riding experience.

With its focus on technology and practicality, the new generation Yamaha NMAX is poised to maintain its leading position in the mid-sized sport scooter segment in Vietnam.
