Lexus has stunned the automotive world by unveiling a mid-cycle refresh for its 2026 IS sports sedan lineup.

Instead of retaining its diverse engine options, Lexus has opted to discontinue both the four-cylinder (IS 300) and V8 (IS 500) configurations in select markets. The 2026 Lexus IS now exclusively features a naturally aspirated V6 engine, accompanied by comprehensive exterior and interior enhancements.

The elimination of the base IS 300 model has significantly raised the starting price to $46,795. Despite the higher cost, the Lexus IS 350 remains a formidable contender in the luxury sports sedan segment, boasting a 3.5L V6 engine that delivers 314 horsepower—surpassing the turbocharged four-cylinder engines found in competitors like the BMW 330i.

While retaining the 2013 chassis, Lexus has executed a dramatic aesthetic overhaul to extend the IS’s lifecycle. The exterior now exudes sharper lines, highlighted by the brand’s signature spindle grille, redesigned air intakes, and an aerodynamically optimized front bumper.

Inside, the transformation is even more pronounced, with a completely redesigned dashboard that radiates modernity and luxury. A crisp 12.3-inch infotainment display takes center stage, while physical climate control buttons are retained for maximum driver convenience.

Premium materials such as bamboo trim and Radiant Red leather elevate the cabin, while advanced technology and amenities take center stage. Standard features include four USB-C ports, wireless charging, and a 10-speaker audio system, upgradable to a 17-speaker Mark Levinson setup. Notably, Lexus is offering a limited “Special Appearance” package for the first 350 U.S. customers, featuring exclusive matte white paint, 19-inch BBS forged wheels, and the Handling Package for enhanced performance.

Mechanically, buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive with an 8-speed automatic transmission or all-wheel drive paired with a 6-speed automatic. Lexus has refined the steering and chassis for improved wheel and brake pedal responsiveness, delivering a more intuitive and seamless driving experience.

In markets like Japan, the Lexus IS 300h Hybrid remains available, but the North American focus from 2026 onward will be squarely on the potent 3.5L V6 engine.
