Recently, the luxury brand Zeekr has garnered significant attention by unveiling the first images of its sporty SUV, the 8X.
While its predecessor, the Zeekr 9X, is often likened to the “Rolls-Royce Cullinan of China” for its imposing presence, the Zeekr 8X embraces a more dynamic and youthful design language.
In terms of design, despite being partially concealed by camouflage, the Zeekr 8X reveals sleek and elegant lines, a stark contrast to the bulkier 9X. It inherits Zeekr’s signature DNA, featuring a large grille dominating the front fascia and sharp C-shaped LED daytime running lights. However, the body takes cues from the 7X with its aerodynamic curves. Notably, the brand retains traditional mechanical door handles and side mirrors, eschewing the digital trend. A standout feature is the Lidar sensor prominently placed on the roof, hinting at advanced autonomous driving capabilities as standard.
Regarding powertrain, while official specifications are yet to be released, the Zeekr 8X is expected to adopt the extended-range electric vehicle (REEV) system from the 9X. This setup utilizes a turbocharged 2.0L gasoline engine as a generator, powering the electric motors. Rumors suggest that the dual-motor variant could deliver approximately 900 horsepower, while the tri-motor version might reach an impressive 1,400 horsepower, coupled with over 1,400 Nm of torque. With a lighter weight and more aerodynamic profile than the 9X, the Zeekr 8X is poised to set new benchmarks for acceleration in the high-performance hybrid SUV segment.
Beyond performance, battery technology and charging capabilities are key highlights. The Zeekr 8X is likely to feature NMC batteries with two capacity options: 55 kWh and 70 kWh. The larger battery pack enables an all-electric range of approximately 380 km (CLTC) before the gasoline engine kicks in. Notably, the 6C fast-charging technology allows for a rapid recharge from 20% to 80% in just 9 minutes, significantly reducing charging station wait times.
The introduction of the Zeekr 8X not only completes Zeekr’s premium SUV lineup but also serves as a bold statement from Chinese automakers in the race for technology, performance, and charging speed against established European luxury brands.
