The Vietnamese automotive market in early 2026 is abuzz with THACO AUTO’s internal event, where its strategic lineup has officially been unveiled.
Alongside notable names like the Kia Tasman, the new-generation Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs are stealing the spotlight. Observers suggest that the vehicles showcased at the event are previews of upcoming models set for assembly in Chu Lai in the near future.
Beyond equipment upgrades, the Peugeot 3008 displayed at the event caught attention with the “HYBRID” label on its license plate. Sharing the same platform, the 5008 is likely to feature a similar electrified powertrain. If realized, this would mark the first time the French brand’s C and D-segment SUVs offer hybrid technology in the domestic market.
Referencing international markets, this hybrid system pairs a 1.2L PureTech gasoline engine with an electric motor and a 48V battery. This combination optimizes performance while delivering impressive fuel efficiency, estimated at just 5.54 L/100 km, and significantly reduces emissions.
In this upgrade, the Peugeot 3008 makes a bold statement by shedding its traditional design for a sleek SUV-Coupe aesthetic, highlighted by a sloping roofline. This style injects a youthful, dynamic vibe, aligning seamlessly with the Peugeot 408’s design language.
Despite its aerodynamic design, the vehicle retains practicality with a 520-liter trunk capacity. Notably, the wheelbase has been extended by 64 mm to 2,739 mm, significantly enhancing interior space, particularly legroom for rear passengers.
Inside, Peugeot reinforces its leadership in interior design with a 21-inch Panoramic i-Cockpit curved screen. This centerpiece offers a futuristic user experience, serving as the hub for control and information display.
While the 3008 targets a youthful audience, the new-generation Peugeot 5008 maintains a classic SUV aesthetic with its robust, squared-off lines, exuding elegance and clearly differentiating its customer base from the 3008, despite shared technology and features.
The introduction of the hybrid powertrain is expected to bolster the competitiveness of the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 in Vietnam, particularly against the Honda CR-V, which is also slated for domestic hybrid production and distribution.
