Recently, a Kia dealership in Vietnam unexpectedly listed a Kia EV6 for sale.
This is believed to be the only EV6 currently available in the Vietnamese market, originally imported by THACO Auto in October 2021 for display and research purposes. At that time, the company planned to commercialize the model, but the plan remains uncertain. The sudden appearance of this rare vehicle has sparked curiosity about its condition and true origins after years of being kept out of the public eye.
The listed Kia EV6 is reportedly a First Edition variant, boasting a powerful dual-motor setup delivering a total output of 320 horsepower and a maximum torque of 604Nm. It is equipped with a 77.4kWh battery pack, ensuring impressive performance.
However, the dealership’s asking price of 1.679 billion VND has sparked considerable debate. This figure is significantly higher than popular large gasoline SUVs like the Hyundai Palisade or Ford Everest. For an electric vehicle launched several years ago, this price is seen as a major barrier for potential buyers.
Despite being a groundbreaking electric vehicle from Kia, the EV6 in Vietnam faces challenges due to the limited charging infrastructure. The lack of official charging stations makes ownership less convenient. Additionally, the global 2024 upgrade of the Kia EV6 features a larger 84kWh battery, offering a range of up to 495km. As a result, selling an older model at a price comparable to luxury vehicles seems to target only collectors or enthusiasts passionate about unique electric technology.
