The classic car market has been booming over the past 12 months with a host of records being shattered, from the most successful year to the highest-value car events to a wave of vintage cars hitting the market at record prices.
The 2005 Porsche Carrera GT below is an example that was sold to a new owner for a record-breaking $2 million – four times its original price and on par with a range of popular supercars on the market today.
It’s worth noting that the previous record for a Porsche Carrera GT was $1.902 million set just last December, demonstrating the enduring appeal of this iconic German sports car.
The 17-year-old Porsche Carrera GT still retains 100% of its original components, from the 603-horsepower V10 engine developed for racing to the 6-speed manual transmission and the advanced F1-style suspension system.
Despite being 17 years old, the car has only traveled a mere 20 km since delivery – a testament to its pristine condition.
Even the car keys (both main and spare), the original branded bags, and all the vehicle documents have been meticulously preserved since 2005. The quality of the car and all its accompanying equipment has been verified to be as new by the auction organizers.
To put into perspective the high price of the Porsche Carrera GT, the $2 million could buy one of the following supercars: Lamborghini Centenario, Koenigsegg Regera, Koenigsegg One:1, or the latest Lotus Evija.
