The highlight of Suzuki’s booth at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 is definitely the new Swift. Although dubbed as a concept model, this car could be a preview of the upcoming production version set to be launched in 2024.

The current-generation Suzuki Swift was introduced in late 2016 and received a mid-lifecycle update in 2020. Therefore, it’s time for this car to get upgraded. The new generation of the Swift retains some characteristic styling cues from its predecessor along with the overall dimensions. However, the entire body has been redesigned to improve aerodynamics.

The new look of the Swift stands out with a slightly smaller honeycomb grille, and the Suzuki logo moved down below the clamshell hood. The headlights have a fresh new shape and LED graphics, combined with a subtly redesigned front bumper highlighted by an aluminum-style trim.

The two-tone treatment with blacked-out mirror caps, pillars, and “floating” roof is carried over but has new lines above the conventional door handles. The new diamond-cut alloy wheels appear to be similar in size to the ones on the commercial version, something that usually doesn’t happen on concept cars.

At the back, we can see slightly smaller LED taillights with a boxier shape and a dark background with a black trim at the bottom of the bumper. Last but not least, this concept car introduced the Frontier Blue Pearl metallic paint, which is likely to be offered in the production models’ color palette.

The interior has also been significantly upgraded, applying a similar layout as the larger Baleno albeit with a white plastic trim expanding into the doors with an interesting texture that makes it look more modern. The infotainment screen is positioned on top of the dashboard, likely measuring nine inches with thick bezels and some touch-sensitive controls.

The steering wheel integrating the buttons is inherited from other Suzuki models, as well as the air conditioning system being revised with toggle switches instead of rotary ones. The instrument cluster features analog dials with a small screen in the middle.

Suzuki is well-known for equipping its cars with plenty of ADAS safety tech in certain markets like Europe and Japan, and the new Swift won’t be an exception. The new generation of the Swift will feature an improved collision mitigation system called Dual Sensor Brake Support II along with Driver Attention Alert and Automatic High Beam.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift measures 3,860 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, similar to its predecessor.

The company doesn’t say much about the powertrain other than describing it as “high-performance” with “low fuel consumption” teamed up with a CVT. However, based on the display model in Tokyo, it looks like the car will be powered by a three-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system.
