Renner Projekts is a custom car builder specializing in German classic cars. One of Renner Projekts’ first creations is a BMW 850i with many modifications.
This BMW 850i was recently put up for sale, however, despite being offered up to 227,000 USD (equivalent to 5.3 billion dong), the seller decided to keep it and not sell.
The original BMW 850i came with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V12 engine.
It was then modified by Renner Projekts into a BMW 8-Series with a 4.9-liter V8 engine from a 2002 BMW M5. This modified engine produces up to 485 horsepower (according to Renner Projekts).
Renner says that they have completely rebuilt the engine, added ARP connecting rod bolts, replaced timing components, and improved airflow with components in both the intake and exhaust sides of the compression chamber.
In addition, Renner also equipped the car with a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels, a braking system that includes brake pads, rotating discs, and calipers from the front E60 M5 and the rear E39 M5.
The interior is also improved with high-quality leather upholstery, ZHP-style gear lever, dual-zone air conditioning, and Alcantara roof.
In addition, there is a “Projekt 8” badge placed between the two front seats, enhancing the value of the car.
However, the car has also received some mixed opinions. Many commenters pointed out that the BMW’s odometer shows that the car has run about 61,200 km, while CarFax reports that the car has traveled over 128,700 km since the mid-2000s.
This is believed to be because Renner bought an 8-Series with an odometer reading of about 152,900 km and then replaced the gauge cluster with one from a brand new BMW 840 that had only traveled about 54,700 km. Therefore, the total mileage of the car is an unclear figure.
Regardless of the reason why the BMW couldn’t be sold, Renner’s refusal of that price is quite surprising.
