Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all economic and social activities have been affected, including sports events that are currently “frozen”. However, as soon as the situation is under control and economic and social activities begin to recover, Honda Vietnam (HVN) has been making efforts to bring the VMRC championship back to Vietnamese audiences.

Since its first edition in 2018, VMRC has been gradually establishing itself as the largest professional racing championship in Vietnam. VMRC has created opportunities not only for professional racers but also for “Wave Riders” clubs across the country.

VMRC has created a professional playground for “Wave Riders” clubs nationwide.

After rigorous selection rounds, VMRC has become the playground for the most skilled racers and “Wave Riders” clubs across the country. Thanks to VMRC, the motorcycle racing movement in Vietnam has been greatly encouraged, allowing racing culture to move from the “streets” to professional tracks.

Entering its 3rd season, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Honda Vietnam continues to invest more in sponsorship for the championship, with the goal of constantly improving the professional quality and organization of VMRC 2020. On June 14, 2020, the opening race of the VMRC 2020 season will officially kick off at the 2K racetrack in Binh Duong province. Prior to that, on June 11, 2020, the official selection of athletes for the 2020 season will take place at the 2K racetrack in Binh Duong province.

VMRC 2020 will maintain its 4 racing categories from previous seasons, which are Blade 110cc, MSX 125cc, Winner 150cc, and UB130cc. Moreover, this year’s season will introduce a new category called the Vietnam Talent Cup, dedicated to young talents aged 15 and above with a passion and desire to pursue motorcycle racing, using the NSF100 model.

The Vietnam Talent Cup category has received high expectations and will bring new excitement to VMRC and the racing scene in Vietnam. It is worth noting that this is the only category that does not use the Underbone type of motorcycle. The NSF100 bikes have a sporty design, and this is also the first professional championship in Vietnam to use sport motorcycles. Fans are eagerly anticipating the performance of these “young” racers.

In their efforts to professionalize racing, HVN has collaborated with the organizing committee to carefully select racers before each season. The VMRC 2020 received an overwhelming response, with over 300 racers registering for the 5 racing categories – a number three times higher than VMRC 2018 and twice as high as VMRC 2019.

The selection of VMRC 2020 racers took place from June 9 to June 11, 2020, aiming to find 7 racers for the Vietnam Talent Cup category, 12 racers for the Blade 110cc category, 12 racers for the MSX125cc category, 12 racers for the Winner 150cc category, and a maximum of 16 racers from Wave Riders clubs across Vietnam.

Notably, in the joint efforts with the Vietnam Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation to enhance the professionalism of participating racers, once officially selected for VMRC 2020, the racers will be issued a racer card certified by the federation. This is the first time in the history of racing in Vietnam, and specifically in the sponsorship activities of HVN, that racers are officially issued certification cards as members of the Vietnam Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation.

In addition to administrative aspects, the technical aspect of the championship will also be improved. The racing bikes, modified from Honda Blade 110, Honda MSX 125, Honda Winner 150 models, will be fine-tuned by Honda Racing Vietnam to enhance performance compared to the previous season. The Honda Wave bikes modified by “Wave Riders” clubs to participate in the UB130 category will also bring many surprises. Furthermore, the newcomer Honda NSF100 is expected to make a new mark in the VMRC 2020 season.

A special highlight of the first round of VMRC 2020: this will be the first race not only in Vietnam but also worldwide to take place after the outbreak of COVID-19. This truly reflects Vietnam’s and HVN’s efforts to ensure that racing activities are not interrupted by the pandemic. The opening round of VMRC 2020 is expected to be a gift to speed enthusiasts after a long period of waiting for the championship to return.

The first round of the Vietnam Motorcycle Racing Championship 2020 will officially take place on June 14, 2020, at the 2K racetrack in Binh Duong province, sponsored by Honda Vietnam. The race will feature competition in 5 categories: Vietnam Talent Cup (NSF100cc), Blade 110cc, MSX 125cc, Winner 150cc, and UB 130cc.
