The Go Far with Zero Worries journey started on November 20th in Singapore, with 5 main members being 5 IONIQ 5 vehicles traveling through 5 countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and ending in Vietnam. Accompanying the team are 3 other support vehicles, including the Hyundai Staria MPV and the familiar Hyundai Creta B-SUV.
The IONIQ 5 model is chosen as the symbol of this journey because of its versatility as an SUV. The journey will pass through countries with different operating conditions and transportation infrastructure. In addition, the use of electric cars to complete a cross-country journey is also the message that Hyundai Motor wants to convey about sustainable development with green and renewable energy sources, thereby contributing to environmental protection.
Built on Hyundai Motor’s global electric vehicle platform E-GMP, the IONIQ 5 has the powertrain and modern features that make it easy to conquer the 2,751km route. The IONIQ 5 convoy has 2 vehicles equipped with AWD drivetrain with 2 electric motors providing up to 320 horsepower. The remaining 3 vehicles use RWD drivetrain with 1 rear-mounted electric motor providing 217 horsepower. With a range of over 450km per charge and the stability of the control software, the convoy has not encountered any charging issues during the journey, even when charging stations are not always available on the road. Therefore, every member of the team has had unique and interesting experiences with the famous landscapes in each country they traveled through.
The IONIQ 5 also has unique features such as V2L (Vehicle to Load), which provides up to 3,600W of power to electrical devices. With this feature, the IONIQ 5 Asean Tour team was able to organize a party with audio, lighting, and cooking appliances powered by their own vehicles.
In addition, the IONIQ 5 also has the V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) feature, which supplies power to another vehicle using its own energy source. This allows the IONIQ 5 to “rescue” another IONIQ 5 or any vehicle with the same charging standard that has run out of battery or forgotten to charge. With a maximum power output of 70 kW, the rescue operation takes only a few minutes and the rescued vehicle has enough energy to travel dozens of kilometers to the nearest charging point to fully recharge.
Fitra Eri, a professional racer from Indonesia and also the owner of an IONIQ 5, said, “The IONIQ 5 is a reliable car. After traveling nearly 3,000km through 5 countries, the car gives me a sense of security with its sturdy and comfortable suspension. The car has a powerful energy system and useful driver assistance features. I particularly appreciate the car’s energy management capability. In addition to providing power to 110-220V electrical devices, the car can also provide reverse charging assistance to other vehicles. This feature is truly useful.”
Teo Swee Hwang, a member of the Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS), shared: “When invited to participate in this journey, my first thought was that it would be really difficult to do because electric vehicle charging infrastructure is still limited in developed countries, let alone in other developing countries. However, when participating in this journey, I realized how reliable the IONIQ 5 is. The IONIQ 5, with its energy sharing capabilities, allows me to personally cook meals for the team members. This is something I never thought I could do with my own car.”
Bich Thuy, one of the first customers to own an IONIQ 5 in Vietnam, said: “As one of the first owners of the car, I also received many doubts about its daily usability and performance. However, I placed my trust in the reputation of the Hyundai automobile brand, as well as in a high-quality product that has received prestigious awards worldwide. Meeting and interacting with international friends who are also using the car today, I have more confidence in the IONIQ 5 and can affirm that my choice was correct.”
The IONIQ 5 is the first car under the newly established IONIQ brand of Hyundai Motor. The car has been highly praised by the community and professionals for its unique design and high-quality finish. The IONIQ 5 has received the prestigious World Car of the Year 2022 (WCOTY 2022) award. In Vietnam, the IONIQ 5 is manufactured and distributed with a rear-wheel drive system, with the option of a 58 kWh battery for a range of 384km and a 72.6 kWh battery for a range of 450km. The car is fully equipped with features for operation, entertainment, and safety, including the Hyundai SmartSense package. The car is distributed in 2 versions: IONIQ 5 Exclusive priced at 1.3 billion VND and IONIQ 5 Prestige priced at 1.45 billion VND, both with a 5-year or 100,000km warranty, whichever comes first. The battery pack has a separate warranty of 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. Currently, customers who purchase the IONIQ 5 from Hyundai Thanh Cong will receive a complimentary 7.7kW home charging box from the ABB brand.
