The new generation Toyota 4Runner will be launched in 2024 with comprehensive upgrades in terms of equipment, exterior and engine.
Toyota 4Runner the 5th generation was launched in 2010 and despite receiving many upgrades over the past 13 years, the design and equipment of this SUV model have generally fallen behind many competitors in the same segment. In order to maintain the attractiveness of this nameplate, recently, Toyota has revealed that the new 4Runner will be launched in 2024 and available in the market from 2025.
Introduced for the first time in 1984, the 4Runner has always maintained strong appeal through many generations and occupies an important position in Toyota’s product lineup. In the new generation, this large-size SUV will be offered in multiple versions, from the standard SR, the sporty TRD Sport to the top-of-the-line Limited.
Meanwhile, the 4Runner TRD Pro is a version dedicated to off-road enthusiasts. This version will have details borrowed from the Tacoma pickup truck, such as the underbody protection plate, 33-inch off-road tires, and other off-road accessories.
The new design of the 4Runner is still a mystery. However, some sources have revealed that this SUV will have a square design similar to the Tacoma. Graphics published by Motor1 show that this SUV will have a hexagonal grille, smaller headlights, and a rugged front bumper. Like the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado, the C-pillar of the 4Runner is straight, making the entire rear of the car more square.
The interior of the 4Runner will also be comprehensively upgraded with a larger screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, …
The engine options of the 4Runner are likely to be similar to the Tacoma as both models have a close relationship with each other. That means the new SUV may be equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a power output ranging from 228 to 278 horsepower. According to leaked information posted by a user on the 4Runner6G forum, the new generation Toyota 4Runner will no longer have a V6 option.
In addition, the 4Runner could also have the i-Force Max hybrid drivetrain, which includes a four-cylinder gasoline engine combined with two electric motors, producing 316 horsepower. It is very likely that the Japanese automaker will still offer a manual transmission option on this SUV model to please sporty driving enthusiasts.
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner currently has a starting price of $41,850 (1.02 billion VND) and the new generation will certainly have a higher price than the above number. The 4Runner is still one of Toyota’s best-selling models in the US market with sales exceeding 120,000 units in 2022. Although this is still an impressive figure, compared to 2021, sales of the car have dropped significantly.
