Engine Update
In the 2024 version, the X5 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, and X6 xDrive40i receive the new generation 3.0L, 6-cylinder inline engine from BMW. This engine is supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a 12 horsepower electric motor and a peak torque of 199 Nm. The drivetrain delivers a total output of 375 horsepower and a peak torque of 519 Nm. For comparison, the previous 6-cylinder engine delivered 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

BMW estimates that the X5 and X6 xDrive40i 2024 models can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, faster than the 5.3 seconds of the previous model.
The X5 and X6 M60i xDrive continue to use the 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine but are now supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The engine output remains at 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. Both models can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
2024 BMW X6
In this upgrade, the X5 xDrive50e PHEV replaces the previous xDrive45e. The total power output from the electric motor and the 3.0L 6-cylinder turbocharged engine is now 483 horsepower/700 Nm, instead of 389 horsepower and 600 Nm. The electric motor usually provides 194 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, but can deliver a temporary torque boost of up to 449 Nm. This new version can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, faster than the previous 5.3 seconds.
BMW also provides a larger capacity battery pack for the xDrive50e, now at 25.7 kWh compared to the previous 17.1 kWh pack. All three engines are paired with an improved 8-speed automatic transmission for smoother gear shifts.
New Look
The upgraded versions of the X5 and X6 have a slightly different appearance than their predecessors. BMW states that the outline of the headlights is narrower by 35 mm and the front bumper has also been refined.
The 2024 X5 is offered with an illuminated kidney grille as an option. The X6 currently comes standard with the M Sport package. The M60i xDrive models feature V8 engines with quad exhaust pipes.

Customers are also offered some new exterior paint colors, including Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey. The X5 M60i xDrive comes in Marina Bay Blue and the X6 M60i xDrive in Isle of Man Green.

Stepping inside the interior of the 2024 X5 and X6, users will notice more significant changes. The displays now sit within a single curved glass display that includes a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 14.9-inch digital instrument cluster. Additionally, there is an interior ambient lighting system with 15 colors for customized mood lighting.

Technology Update
In terms of driver assistance technologies, the highway driving assist system will be added to the optional professional driver assistance package. The system allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel on the highway at speeds of up to 85 mph.
Assisted view mode is supported on the instrument cluster, displaying detected vehicles from cameras and sensors on the current and adjacent lanes.
The professional parking assist system is also provided for the 2024 BMW X5 and X6.
Both models will be showcased to the public at the Amelia Concours d’Elegance in March and officially go into production from April at the company’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
