The discovered car in a repair shop in Ho Chi Minh City is the Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster. This is a convertible car that was produced from 5/1955 to 2/1963. The first prototype was unveiled at the 1954 New York Auto Show.

  • The 190SL was sold alongside the faster, more expensive Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Both versions have the same design. This car applied advanced technologies at that time, such as a fully independent suspension system, with twin wishbones at the front and swing axle at the rear. The 190SL was not built on a tubular frame like the 300SL but was built on the platform of a smaller Mercedes W121 sedan.

    The 190SL is powered by a 1.9-liter, 4-cylinder inline SOHC engine, producing 104 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. The engine block on the 190SL is also based on the 6-cylinder engine of the 300SL. The car weighs 1,160 kg, with a fuel tank capacity of 65 liters. Length is 4,290 mm, width is 1,740 mm and height is 1,320 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,400 mm.

    The car was announced at a price of 16,500 Deutsche Mark, equivalent to $3,998 at that time for the convertible version, and the coupe version was priced at $4,295.

    An option equipped is the second-row seating, which can accommodate one adult. The car is equipped with a Perspex sport windshield used for racing cars and Spartan leather wrapping, aluminum doors. Both the 190SL and 300SL were replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 230SL in 1963.
