On June 3-4, 2016, the DAS Volkswagen Fest 2016 festival with the main theme “The New Mission” organized by Volkswagen Vietnam took place in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The purpose of DAS Volkswagen Fest 2016 is to bring unforgettable experiences of a German-themed autoshow to visitors.
The festival takes place in a luxurious space and of course, it cannot be without the “golden classic” lineup of Volkswagen cars. Among them, the 8th-generation Volkswagen Passat sedan is the highlight of the festival.
All three 2016 Volkswagen Passat cars appearing at the event belong to the highest-end GP version with a price of 1.6 billion VND. In the Vietnamese market, the main competitor of the Volkswagen Passat 2016 is the Toyota Camry.
The 2016 Volkswagen Passat uses a turbocharged TSI engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters, generating a maximum power of 180 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Combined with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission, the engine allows the car to accelerate from 0-97 km/h in 7.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 232 km/h.
In addition to the Passat 2016, Volkswagen Vietnam also brought the discontinued large-size Phaeton sedan from the UK and the US to Vietnam to serve the festival. If Vietnamese customers have a demand for purchase, Volkswagen will officially distribute the Phaeton with a price of 3.038 billion VND.
The Volkswagen Scirocco GTS made its debut at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show with various exterior upgrades. The Volkswagen Scirocco GTS uses a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, generating a maximum power of 217 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The car has the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 246 km/h.
Volkswagen Touareg
In addition to modern models, Volkswagen also displayed vintage cars such as the Volkswagen Beetle.
The Volkswagen Beetle is the oldest-lasting car in the world, first launched in 1938. In 65 years, more than 21 million Volkswagen Beetles have been produced.
In the Vietnamese market, depending on the condition of the car, Volkswagen Beetles are bought and sold at prices ranging from 120 to 250 million VND.
In addition to the vintage Volkswagen Beetle, the event also featured the appearance of the popular Mini Bus from the ’70s and ’80s. Nowadays, Volkswagen Mini Buses are often converted into mobile cafes or restaurants. At the DAS Volkswagen Fest 2016, vintage cars serve as background for visitors to take pictures.
In the near future, Volkswagen Vietnam will introduce models such as Beetle Design 1.2, Beetle Dune 1.4, Jetta 1.4, Golf 1.6, Passat 1.8, and Tiguan 1.4 to Vietnamese customers. In addition, the company aims to sell a total of 700 Volkswagen cars in the Vietnamese market in 2016.
