The Hanoi Department of Transport has recently proposed to build two bicycle lanes along the To Lich River and around Hoa Binh Park.
Accordingly, the bike lane along the To Lich River, from So Junction to Cau Giay Junction, is 2.3km long and 4m wide. It is planned to be renovated into a 3m-wide bicycle lane and a 1m-wide pedestrian lane.
The Hanoi Department of Transport believes that this is a potential route linking to Lang Station (the elevated Cat Linh – Ha Dong railway) and Station 8 of the Nhon – Hanoi Metro Line. Along this route, there are 6 bus stops, creating favorable conditions for people to use public transport. In addition, 6 public bike stations are also proposed to be added along this route.
The second pilot lane is around Hoa Binh Park and Hoang Minh Thao Street (Bac Tu Liem District). According to surveys, the sidewalk around Hoa Binh Park is over 1.8km long and 7m wide, meeting the requirements for organizing bike lanes to serve the park’s activities as well as connecting with other routes. To build a separate bike lane on this section of road, the construction unit said that the sidewalk needs to be repaired, creating a priority lane for two-way bike traffic, 3m wide.
The budget for the two pilot routes is nearly 10 billion VND from the state budget. Specifically, the To Lich River route will cost 970 million VND, while the Hoa Binh Park and Hoang Minh Thao Street route will cost 8.8 billion VND.
Bicycles and public bike services have been deployed in Hanoi recently, but there is still no dedicated lane for this type of vehicle. Therefore, the implementation of these necessary routes aims to encourage people to use this environmentally-friendly and health-beneficial mode of transportation.
