Yesterday, on December 14, 2023, Kia unveiled the upgraded version of the Sonet SUV in the Indian market. With the new version, this A-segment SUV has received updates in its exterior design as well as additional convenience and safety features.
Exterior Design of the Kia Sonet 2024
As previously leaked images suggested, the Kia Sonet 2024 has received new exterior design details. This can be clearly seen in the front of the car with its improved “tiger-nose” grille and new LED headlights. The headlights now have a sleeker design and come with a daytime running LED strip and turn signal lights inspired by star maps, similar to other new Kia models. In addition, there is a new front bumper with horizontally placed LED fog lights and a more sporty silver skid plate compared to the previous version.

The side profile of the new Kia Sonet remains unchanged, except for the alloy wheels. In the Indian market, this A-segment SUV offers 4 types of alloy wheels with diameters of 15 inches and 16 inches.

At the rear, this Korean car has been equipped with new “C-shaped” LED taillights. The taillights are connected by a thin LED strip that runs horizontally across the tailgate, reminiscent of the new Kia Seltos. Similarly, the rear bumper of the car also features a more sporty silver skid plate.

In the Indian market, the Kia Sonet 2024 continues to offer 3 exterior design packages: Tech Line, GT Line, and X-Line. The Kia Sonet Tech Line 2024 features different front/rear bumpers and vertically placed front fog lights. On the other hand, the X-Line variant features the exclusive Matte Graphite paint color. Dark exterior details such as the grille surround and front/rear skid plates are also the distinguishing features of the X-Line version. The Kia Sonet GT Line 2024 features additional chrome accent details on the grille as highlights.

When buying this A-segment SUV, Indian customers can choose between a single-tone or dual-tone version. The Pewter Olive color, similar to the Kia Seltos, is a new paint option for the car.

Interior Design of the Kia Sonet 2024
Unlike the exterior, the interior design of the Kia Sonet 2024 remains unchanged. Instead, Kia has added new features to the interior.

Stepping inside the car, users will notice the new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the one used in the Kia Seltos. In addition, there is a new screen for displaying information about the air conditioning system, located between the two air vents. The car also features physical buttons for air conditioning control, traction control system, and drive mode selection, which are new additions to the Kia Sonet 2024. Furthermore, the car now has new seat upholstery materials and cooling features for the front seats.

The remaining equipment of this car remains the same as before, including 4-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose 7-speaker audio system, automatic air conditioning with air filtration system, power sunroof, interior ambient lighting, and voice-controlled Alexa.
The Kia Sonet 2024 in India is available in 5 interior colors, including the new black with brown combination. The Sage Green interior color is only available for the X-Line variant.

Safety Features of the Kia Sonet 2024
One of the biggest changes in the Kia Sonet 2024 in India is in terms of safety features. The SUV now comes with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Specifically, the car is equipped with 8 ADAS features, including lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, lane follow assist, high beam assist, early collision warning and avoidance assist, and forward vehicle start alert. With these features, the car meets the level 1 autonomous driving standards, similar to its Hyundai Venue sibling.

In addition to the ADAS features, the Kia Sonet 2024 also receives another important safety upgrade, which is new rear disc brakes. Previously, this A-segment SUV only had front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
Other standard safety features include 6 airbags, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, and electronic stability control. In the top variant, the car is also equipped with a 360-degree camera, blind-spot collision warning, and front parking sensors.
Engines of the Kia Sonet 2024
As a mid-life upgrade, the Kia Sonet 2024 in India does not receive any changes in its engines. The car still offers 3 engine options for customers to choose from.

The first option is a naturally aspirated 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 83 horsepower. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The second option is a turbocharged 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 120 horsepower. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The third option is a 1.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing a maximum power of 116 horsepower. This engine is paired with a 6-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT), a 6-speed manual transmission, or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Thus, the Kia Sonet 2024 has brought back the manual diesel variant to the Indian market.

In the Indian market, the Kia Sonet 2024 offers 7 trim levels: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX, and X-Line. The prices of this A-segment SUV will be announced in January 2024. The car will continue to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Suzuki Brezza, and Nissan Magnite.
