In a recent development, social media has unexpectedly shared an image of a mysterious SUV bearing the Ford logo appearing near Notre Dame Cathedral (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

Accordingly, the car has a closed grille with the word Explorer extending across the front of the car, making many people sure that this is the pure electric Ford Explorer model that the American carmaker introduced in March.

However, this car has a European license plate, so it is likely that it has been brought to Vietnam as a temporary import to take pictures and shoot advertising materials.

Currently, Ford Vietnam has not made any official announcement regarding the distribution plan for this model. In reality, this model has been launched, but it has not been available worldwide until mid-2024. Therefore, the chance of it being launched in Vietnam is very slim.

Ford Explorer EV is the first model of the American car manufacturer to use the MEB architecture from the Volkswagen Group, as part of the cooperation between Ford and VW.

In terms of design, the Ford Explorer EV looks more solid than the ID.4, with more straight lines, a square body, and a more muscular and powerful appearance.

The prominent design details on the electric SUV include the closed-off grille resembling a “shield,” daytime running lights intertwining with the word Explorer surrounding the shield, a U-shaped protective plate, and vertical taillights reminiscent of a regular Explorer model.

Next are the black A-pillars and unique C-pillars that create a floating roof effect. The alloy wheel design is aerodynamically optimized with sizes of 19, 20, and 21 inches.

Inside the cabin, the Ford Explorer EV stands out with a modern design, with the main highlight being the vertical 15-inch Ford Sync Move touchscreen in the center, which can smoothly raise and lower by 30 degrees.

The car also has a 5-inch digital instrument cluster displaying driving data, battery capacity, and the status of automatic assistive features. In addition, the Ford Explorer EV also has a convenient haptic touchpad below the center screen to control features such as audio volume or driving assistance technologies.

Standard convenience features equipped on the Ford Explorer EV include: keyless entry, dual-zone air conditioning, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 10-color interior ambient lighting, etc.

In terms of safety equipment, this electric SUV will be equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 cameras, and 3 radar devices that can monitor the vehicle’s surroundings 360 degrees to activate a range of driver assist systems. Ford has not yet announced detailed specifications of the electric Explorer at the moment.

According to many speculations, Ford Explorer EV will be powered by 3 options: a single motor drivetrain with 168 horsepower and a range of 351 km; a single motor drivetrain with 228 horsepower and a range of 539 km; a dual-motor drivetrain with 335 horsepower and a range of 491 km.
