According to Carscoops, recent reports suggest that Maserati has postponed its plans to develop an all-electric version of the Quattroporte.

Specifically, suppliers were notified in late November that the project, codenamed M9S, has been suspended and all activities related to the development of the new electric sedan will be rescheduled to next year. This source also reveals that the electric Quattroporte will go into production and be released to the market starting from 2025.

To reassure partners, Maserati has stated that the new model is “developed, designed, and 100% made in Italy, and uses an electric motor.”

Maserati did not explain why the all-electric Quattroporte project has been put on hold, but Italy’s Corriere Torino newspaper quotes an exclusive source that the reason comes from Stellantis, the parent company, wanting to reposition the luxury brands within the group to avoid overlap between Alfa Romeo and Maserati. As for Alfa Romeo, the brand has announced plans to introduce an electric Giulia in 2025 or 2026. This supercar is expected to have an astonishing power output of up to 986 horsepower.

Another reason leading to the suspension of the electric Quattroporte project is that Maserati is said to have requested suppliers to cut costs by 6% for components. This decision by the company has sparked strong reactions from partner parties as the company has already reduced costs by 5-6% previously.
