Bentley Customers Save Over 100 Million VND on Custom Detail

It took over 3 years to develop the unique 3-sided rotating dashboard in Bentley's interior, and this effort has paid off as most buyers of the brand spend money on this feature.

According to Bentley, about 70% of customers choose this option when configuring their luxury cars, even though it comes with a price tag of over $6,000.

This detail is worth it because it is made up of 153 individual pieces, with each surface being crafted with a tolerance of about 0.3mm. As you can see below, one side provides a clean veneer layer, one side houses the trio of analog gauges, and one side is a touchscreen display.

The touchscreen is a 12.3-inch infotainment interface, while the three analog gauges display the outside temperature, compass, and chronograph, but how do you switch between these options?

Bentley explains that there needs to be three separate but interconnected movements, in which the first movement pulls the device into the dashboard, allowing room for the second phase – rotation. Then, the screen will move back into position. This precise movement is performed by 40 moving parts, including gears and a transmission controlled by a dedicated ECU. That’s right, the dashboard has its own computer just to switch between display options, but clearly, it works as evidenced by the 70% customer interest in the system three years ago.

This year, Bentley has received an award for innovation from the Automobile Awards judges. 2023 also marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the twin-turbocharged 6.0L W12 engine and is the last year it will be produced, as the final model will be produced in April next year as Bentley prepares for a fully electric vehicle lineup by 2030.

At least there is some good news as Bentley promises the W12 will have a “memorable send-off,” so look out for some special edition variants, possibly based on the already special Bentley Batur, featuring the most powerful engine. The W12 has previously been produced with a power output of 740 horsepower and 1,000Nm of torque.
