Introduced in Vietnam in 2017 with a price tag of 769 million VND, which was relatively high compared to the market average at that time, making the American model struggle to win over Vietnamese customers.
After a short period of time, Chevrolet Trax quietly exited the Vietnamese market. Currently, the price to own this American SUV brand ranges from 380-390 million VND, an attractive figure for those who want an affordable, spacious, and high-riding SUV.
The price advantage of the Chevrolet Trax is significant in the used car market when compared to its two competitors, the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Kona. With this budget, buyers can only choose between the EcoSport 2015-2017 (ranging from 320-360 million VND) whose interior and exterior designs are outdated. If they desire the more modern and aesthetically pleasing EcoSport from 2018 onwards, which offers more advanced features and a contemporary interior, they will have to spend at least 450 million VND.
For those who prefer the Korean model, Hyundai Kona, it becomes even more challenging, as the 2018 Kona is priced at nearly 500 million VND. Higher model years range from 530-550 million VND. Although the Kona attracts customers with its many electronic features and conveniences, its interior space is smaller and less spacious compared to the Chevrolet Trax and Ford EcoSport. The limited trunk space makes cargo storage inconvenient.
Compared to its fellow countryman, the Ford EcoSport, the Chevrolet Trax has a similar appearance. The difference is that the Trax does not have a rear-mounted spare tire like the Ford model.
The headlamps have a high aesthetic appeal with their lens design. The interior of the Chevrolet Trax is attractive and not outdated compared to the current market. The downside is that the My Link infotainment system is not eye-catching. Nevertheless, one must not forget that this is a 6-year-old car.
The 2017 Chevrolet Trax is equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that produces a maximum power of 140 horsepower at a range of 4,900 – 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm at a range of 1,850 – 4,900 rpm, accompanied by a 6-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of safety, the 2017 Chevrolet Trax has quite a few basic safety technologies, including electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake assist (PBA), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), engine drag control (EDC), traction control system (TCS), hill start assist (HSA), hill descent control (HDC), and tire pressure sensors.
Compared to other B-segment SUV models currently available on the market, the Chevrolet Trax only falls short in terms of active safety systems. However, for basic transportation needs, the car still performs well.
Despite being 6 years old, the overall appearance of the Chevrolet Trax is not outdated. The car is tall and spacious enough for 5 adults, and it has a decent range of safety features. Currently, the car is no longer officially distributed, but users can still maintain it at VinFast service centers or choose reputable independent garages. On the downside, the car’s depreciation value is relatively high.
