Recently, Chinese automaker BYD announced its cumulative sales for the year 2023. In particular, in 2023, BYD achieved a sales volume of 3,024,417 vehicles, including both plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, a growth of 62.3%. This number far exceeds the sales volume in 2022 (1,863,494 vehicles). Also in 2023, the company’s production reached 3,045,231 vehicles, an increase of 62.2% compared to the same period last year.

Last year, BYD focused on strengthening its production activities in the passenger car segment. Sales in this segment also grew significantly by 62.2% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 3,012,906 vehicles.

The sales of electric vehicles also increased by 72.8%, with a total of 1,574,822 vehicles delivered to customers.

The commercial vehicle segment of BYD also experienced significant growth of 88.2% compared to the same period last year, with a total sales volume of 11,511 commercial vehicles, including electric buses, trucks, and other vehicles.

Although the growth rate is not as high as electric vehicles, BYD’s plug-in hybrid models also achieved a total of 1,438,084 vehicles in 2023, an increase of 52% compared to the same period in 2022.

Not only did BYD achieve impressive sales in the domestic market, but its overseas sales also experienced significant growth. Specifically, in 2023, BYD sold 242,766 vehicles, an increase of 334%.

In 2023, BYD also made a mark in the field of battery production. The company’s batteries installed in new energy vehicles reached a total capacity of 150,909 GWh. This achievement makes BYD the second-largest company, after CATL, in the field of electric vehicle batteries.

At the beginning of 2023, BYD expected to achieve sales of 3 million vehicles. At that time, this number seemed doubtful to many, but in reality, the company exceeded this target, achieving even higher growth. To celebrate the milestone of selling over 3 million vehicles in 2023, BYD decided to give 666 NDT (about 2.28 million VND) for each vehicle sold to dealers in China.

BYD’s current plan is to focus on developing in Japan and Southeast Asia. These are two regions where the company aims to penetrate the market and establish manufacturing plants to serve the local and export markets.
