Following Daihatsu’s announcement to suspend all production activities, Indonesia immediately gave the green light for this Japanese brand to continue delivering vehicles to domestic users.

According to Kyodo news agency, Indonesian authorities have confirmed the safety of Daihatsu vehicles, including domestic models under the Toyota brand, thereby allowing the resumption of delivery of the shipments.

Daihatsu is the second-best-selling brand in the Indonesian market, second only to its parent company, Toyota. Key models in this market such as Avanza, Rush, Agya, and Calya are all under the Toyota and Daihatsu brands.

Therefore, the Indonesian government wants to quickly resolve the situation to minimize losses for the domestic car market.

In addition to Indonesia, Daihatsu vehicles (including those branded as Toyota) are also distributed to many Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Earlier, on December 20, Toyota announced that Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, would temporarily suspend all distribution activities in the domestic and overseas markets after discovering that the majority of the company’s car models were affected by the safety test cheating scandal.

Currently, the total number of cars related to the scandal is 64, including nearly 20 models sold under the Toyota brand but using Daihatsu’s technology and chassis.
