Recently, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new operating system called MB.OS at CES 2024 exhibition. According to the manufacturer’s statement, the new MB.OS software is different from the MBUX entertainment information system, faster and more efficient than Mercedes’ current systems.
One of the important features of the operating system is the deployment of the new MBUX virtual assistant. This new system is said to provide the most “human-like interface” ever seen on Mercedes-Benz vehicles, using AI and proactive automation technology.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the MBUX virtual assistant can provide “helpful suggestions based on learned behavior and context” such as delivering the latest news in the morning or starting the driver’s preferred massage mode at the end of the working day.
This new virtual assistant is built on 4 “personality traits” including: Natural, Predictive, Personal, and Empathetic. Its goal is to create the feeling that the user is chatting with a friend.
Therefore, the keyword “Hey Mercedes” no longer needs to be spoken to activate the assistance, and the system can answer questions and search for more details by asking its own “smart questions”.
In addition, the virtual assistant can also respond to prompts in natural language, such as “I’m hungry”. If Hey Mercedes only introduces a few nearby restaurants and ends the suggestion, the MBUX virtual assistant will summarize the menu and ratings to help the driver make a decision.
The MBUX virtual assistant even adjusts its functions according to the driver’s mood through an image of a star on the center entertainment screen to represent different moods and states, such as calm or excited.
The new MB.OS operating system also introduces an upgraded Surround MBUX navigation system. This setup uses advanced 3D graphics to provide a detailed map of the world for passengers and can display various types of traffic, including cars, trucks, bicycles, and even pedestrians. In addition, the system displays route guidance on the screen to make navigation easier than ever.
In addition, the MB.OS system has many other new features, such as upgraded video streaming service with RIDEVU service from Sony Pictures Entertainment, while a range of arcade-style video games will be deployed through a collaboration with Antstream company.
The production version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class concept model will be equipped with the first-generation new operating system. Built on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the next-generation CLA will be optimized for electric vehicles but will still be offered with ICE powertrain.
