The Volvo EX30 is now available in the Southeast Asian region, specifically in Thailand, with the possibility that this all-electric SUV model will arrive in Vietnam at the end of this year.

At the Singapore Auto Show 2024, Volvo introduced the all-electric SUV model EX30. At the event, the Swedish automaker showcased the EX30 Ultra Single Motor Extended version, estimated to be priced at about 185,000 SGD (~3.4 billion VND) including COE. Meanwhile, in the Thai market, the Volvo EX30 2024 is distributed in 3 versions: Core Single Motor Extended Range, Ultra Single Motor Extended Range, and Ultra Twin Motor Performance.

Volvo Vietnam has announced its plans to launch an electric vehicle in the domestic market by the end of 2024, and many anticipate that it will likely be this SUV model, the EX30.

The Volvo EX30 is currently the smallest model in Volvo’s product lineup. Specifically, the dimensions of this electric SUV are quite compact. The vehicle measures 4,223 x 1,837 x 1,555 mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. These dimensions are similar to the “made in Vietnam” electric vehicle – the VF e34.

In terms of design, the Volvo EX30 2024 still bears the resemblance of its predecessor, the EX90, with the distinctive Thor’s Hammer LED positioning headlights and the L-shaped taillights. While the overall body shape and door structure are similar to the XC40, the roofline slopes more towards the rear.

Stepping inside the cabin, the Volvo EX30 2024 welcomes users with a minimalist interior design. The car does not have a traditional instrument cluster behind the steering wheel or buttons on the doors. The position of the instrument cluster is replaced by a sensor box that monitors the driver’s condition, such as eyes, blinking, head rotation, to assess and issue warnings. To check speed, gears, etc., the driver needs to look at the upper part of the infotainment screen.

On all three versions, the car is equipped with a 2-tier storage compartment in the central area. If users do not need a cup holder, they can slide it and hide it into the armrest while expanding the storage space for the lower tier. This area also houses the front window controls and the lock/unlock button. The “Rear” button controls the two rear seat windows.

Furthermore, even the power seat adjustment knob on the Volvo EX30 2024 is minimized. To adjust the backrest angle, the occupant needs to turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise. Sliding the seat up/down will push it in the horizontal direction. To adjust the seat height, the occupant needs to press the middle button to change the mode, then continue turning the knob clockwise or counterclockwise.

Notably, each version of the Volvo EX30 2024 will have different equipment. The standard version of the Volvo EX30 2024 includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, single-zone automatic air conditioning, manual seat adjustment, 12.3-inch central touchscreen, Android Automotive-based infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay support.

For the Ultra Single Motor Extended Range and Ultra Twin Motor Performance versions, the Volvo EX30 is equipped with 19-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, power trunk lid, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, interior ambient lighting, Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree camera, front collision warning, and lane departure warning.

As for the powertrain, the Volvo EX30 2024 uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack with an available capacity of 69 kWh. The battery can be fully charged with an 11 kW AC slow charger in 7.5 hours. With a 153 kW fast charger, the charging time from 10% to 80% is 26.5 minutes.

For the Volvo EX30 Ultra Single Motor Extended Range and Core Single Motor Extended Range versions, the car features a powerful single electric motor with 268 horsepower and 343 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. The range on a full charge for these two versions is 480 km.

Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Volvo EX30 2024 Ultra Twin Motor Performance uses an NMC battery pack combined with 2 electric motors, creating a total power output of 422 horsepower and all-wheel drive. This powertrain enables the EX30 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
