Baojun has added to its product range with the Yep Plus 5-door model and added features to the electric crossover model. The car starts at $11,800 (equivalent to about 290 million VND). This is how the joint venture between SAIC, Wuling, and GM of the United States is trying to increase sales of small electric vehicles, which have shown signs of slowing down recently. In 2023, Baojun only sold 14,683 cars in the Chinese market.
With a 28.1 kWh battery pack, the standard Yep model can travel 303 km per charge, but has a power output of only 67 horsepower and has two doors. Although the battery pack size of the Yep Plus has not been disclosed, the new four-door crossover will be able to travel 401 km per charge.
To increase performance, Baojun has upgraded the motor to produce 101 horsepower, allowing the car to reach a top speed of 150 km/h. Like the standard Yep, the Yep Plus has a boxy design and off-road capabilities, although it is designed for crowded cities. With its two-tone paint job, the car looks somewhat like a Ford Bronco Sport.
The Baojun Yep has a sleek design, high ground clearance, and wide wheel arches with raised front and rear bumpers, giving the car a rugged feel. The car is equipped with LED headlights both front and rear. There is still no information about the interior, but the Yep Plus will come with a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen and a display with the same size gauge cluster, giving the car more technology. However, the rearview mirror in the Yep Plus is optional, although it has a 360-degree camera.
The Yep Plus is expected to be available in the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2024. The price has not yet been disclosed, but Chinese media reports suggest that it will be around $11,800 (equivalent to about 290 million VND).
