At the recent CES exhibition, the Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the new G-Class mini will be fully electric.

Prior to that, at the Munich 2023 exhibition held in early September 2023, Mercedes-Benz shared its plan to expand its iconic G-Class lineup with a smaller model.

This line of vehicles is expected to use the name G-Class with the “g” not capitalized to emphasize the difference from the original full-size G-Class.

In terms of design, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class mini will certainly retain the majority of the original model’s boxy frame. To ensure good off-road capabilities, it will have a high ground clearance and numerous off-road features. The smaller size means the vehicle will offer better maneuverability and agility compared to the original model.

The Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz also revealed that the G-Class mini will not use the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform like the CLA concept introduced by Mercedes in September 2023.

The vehicle will share the same platform as the larger rear-wheel-drive models of Mercedes, optimizing the off-road capability of the vehicle.

It’s possible that the vehicle will use a different platform but share some similarities with the newly launched EQG electric vehicle. The EQG is also the brand’s most capable off-road vehicle, even more powerful than the gasoline-powered G-Class.

The specific details about battery size, engine configuration, and capacity are still being kept under wraps.

However, according to some sources, it is highly likely that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class mini will feature an electric powertrain with a range of up to 400km, similar to the upcoming commercial CLA model.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class mini is expected to be launched in 2026, with production scheduled for the end of 2026 at the Hungary plant. The price of this variant is estimated to be only about a third of the “full-size” version, starting at around $55,000 (1.35 billion VND).
