Last week, the official Vietnamese information page of Great Wall Motors (GWM) confirmed the launch of the first Haval brand car in the Vietnamese market.

Regarding the launch date, GWM Vietnam’s fanpage stated that it will be introduced to Vietnamese consumers in August but did not disclose the specific date.

This is not the first time GWM has appeared in Vietnam. In 2022, GWM opened a representative office and seemed ready to introduce cars, but then withdrew from the market after about 6 months of operation.

Based on the current product range and the direction to become a “leading SUV brand,” it can be seen that Haval will only distribute SUV models to Vietnamese customers. One of the products that Haval has chosen for the Vietnamese car market is the Haval H6, a model that has just launched a new version in the Thai market.

The selling price of this SUV model has not yet been disclosed by Haval. In the Thai market, the Haval H6 has a listed price of 1,349 million baht, equivalent to about 910 million VND.

The Haval H6 is positioned in the C-segment SUV with dimensions of 4,610 x 1,860 x 1,720 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,690 mm. When entering the Vietnamese market, the Chinese representative will have to compete with many models in the same segment such as Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Territory, and VinFast VF e34.

Currently, the Mazda CX-5 is the best-selling C-segment SUV in Vietnam with sales of 4,177 units since the beginning of the year. VinFast VF e34 ranks second with sales of 4,065 units, while the Ford Territory sold 2,852 units.

Haval is an automotive brand under the Great Wall Motors group from China. Some models from this brand include the Haval H6, Haval H9, Haval Jolion, Haval F7, and Haval F7x.

According to China Daily, Great Wall Motors recorded sales of over 1 million vehicles worldwide in 2022, including 173,180 vehicles in markets outside China.

Chinese car brands seem to be cautious about the Vietnamese market. Besides GWM, Chery also had early information about its presence in Vietnam, but so far, no cars have been sold.

At the end of this June, the Vietnamese car market will welcome the appearance of a mini electric car from Wuling, while the official timing for GWM or Chery’s appearance is still unknown.
