A British engineering company has effectively doubled the power of the Ford Ranger by incorporating an electric motor and a six-wheel drive system.
Manufactured by Ricardo, a UK-based company that also designs engines for McLaren supercars, the Ranger HEX is specifically engineered for off-road and heavy-duty transportation. It boasts a 6×6 drive system and a powerful plug-in hybrid engine.
This impressive drivetrain consists of a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine with 249 horsepower, combined with a robust electric motor rated at 282 horsepower. Developed by Ricardo, the electric motor significantly enhances the vehicle’s power, resulting in a total output of 531 horsepower.

The electric motor is fuelled by a rechargeable battery that can be conveniently replenished via regenerative braking or a household power outlet. The battery’s capacity can be customized to meet the specific needs of each customer.
Equipped with the electric motor system and a redesigned chassis, the Ranger HEX is notably heavier compared to the original model. Ricardo states that the modified vehicle weighs around 3,800kg, almost 1 tonne more than the diesel V6-powered Ranger Wildtrak. To accommodate this increased weight, the rear beam axle and standard leaf springs of the Ranger have been replaced with a sturdier De Dion axle system.
