The Peugeot 5008 made its debut in July 2009 as a mid-size multipurpose vehicle (MPV). It received an upgrade in October 2013 with improved engine and exterior design. However, it wasn’t until September 2016 that it was reclassified as a mid-size SUV.

The second generation 5008 was essentially a 7-seater version of the 3008 crossover model. But for the third generation, the two SUVs will have more differences, as confirmed by the prototype photos of the new Peugeot 5008.

This is the first appearance of the prototype for the next-generation Peugeot 5008 during testing. Based on our assessment, Peugeot will not drastically change the shape compared to its predecessor. It will retain the box-shaped design to offer a spacious and comfortable interior. Meanwhile, the French automaker is preparing to launch the new 3008 model, which is closely related to the 5008 and promises a visually appealing design with a sloping roofline.

The new 5008 lacks a sloping roofline, unlike the 3008, as its roof remains almost completely flat from the A-pillar to the rear window. This design choice is crucial to provide ample headroom for the two rear rows of seats in the 3-row SUV model from Peugeot.

It is too early to confirm if the new model will be larger than its predecessor, but it is expected to have a slightly longer wheelbase than the current 5008, which measures 2,840mm.

As for the powertrain, it appears that this prototype is not a fully electric vehicle. Upon closer examination below the rear bumper, you can spot part of the exhaust system. This suggests that the prototype may be equipped with a diesel engine, with a displacement of either 1.5L or 2.0L. However, Peugeot has previously announced plans for a pure electric version of the new 5008, which will be developed on the STLA Medium platform and feature 87-104 kWh batteries.

With the new Peugeot 3008 set to be unveiled in September of this year, we can expect the launch of the new 5008 3-row SUV around the middle of next year.
