The highlight of Suzuki’s booth at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 is undoubtedly the new Swift. While it’s called a concept model, this car could give us a glimpse of the upcoming production version scheduled to launch in 2024.

The current-generation Suzuki Swift was introduced in late 2016 and received a mid-lifecycle update in 2020. So it’s about time that this car gets a refresh. The new generation Swift retains some recognizable styling cues from its predecessor, along with similar dimensions. However, the entire body has been redesigned to improve aerodynamics.

The new look of the Swift stands out with a slightly smaller honeycomb grille, and the Suzuki logo has been moved below the clamshell hood. The headlights have been redesigned with a fresh new shape and LED graphics. The subtly redesigned front bumper features an aluminum-style trim, adding to the car’s appeal.

The two-tone treatment with blacked-out mirror caps, pillars, and a “floating” roof has been carried over, but the new Swift has new lines above the conventional door handles. The diamond-cut alloy wheels in the concept car are similar in size to those found on the commercial version, which is quite rare for concept cars.

At the back, we can see slightly smaller LED taillights with a boxier shape and a dark background. There’s also a black trim at the bottom of the bumper, adding a touch of sophistication. Notably, this concept car debuts the Frontier Blue Pearl metallic paint, which is likely to be offered in the production models.

The interior has also received significant upgrades, featuring a layout similar to the larger Baleno. A white plastic trim extends into the doors, giving it a modern look. The infotainment screen is positioned on top of the dashboard, likely measuring nine inches, with thick bezels and touch-sensitive controls.

The steering wheel integrates buttons that we’ve seen in other Suzuki models. The air conditioning system has been revised, now featuring toggle switches instead of rotary ones. The instrument cluster boasts analog dials with a small screen in the middle.

Suzuki is well-known for equipping its cars with plenty of ADAS safety tech, particularly in markets like Europe and Japan. The new Swift will not disappoint in this regard. It will come with an improved collision mitigation system called Dual Sensor Brake Support II, along with Driver Attention Alert and Automatic High Beam.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift measures 3,860 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, similar to its predecessor.

The company hasn’t revealed much about the powertrain, other than describing it as “high-performance” with “low fuel consumption,” paired with a CVT. However, based on the display model in Tokyo, it appears that the car will be powered by a three-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system.
