Previously, in late August 2023, KIA EV5 was officially launched in China with a starting price of 159,800 Chinese yuan (approximately 22,000 USD).

When it comes to overall design, KIA EV5 showcases a modern, dynamic, and distinctive look that closely resembles the concept version. Upon closer inspection, it’s evident that the wheels feature a futuristic design, slightly smaller than the 21-inch wheels on the concept version. Additionally, the side mirrors are larger, and the front bumper has undergone some minor revisions.

All in all, the EV5 resembles a smaller version of the EV9, boasting a more aggressive “tiger face” design. With a length of 4,615 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the EV5 shares similar dimensions with the internal combustion engine-powered Kia Sportage but is 135 mm shorter than the Tesla Model Y.

The target audience for the Kia EV5 is young families, which means practicality is a top priority alongside modern design, convenience, and sustainability. Consequently, the SUV’s interior is conceived as an “additional living space” for millennial families.

The front passenger seats feature an even more comfortable design. The cabin offers a customizable 64-color ambient lighting system that adjusts brightness according to driving modes and ADAS system alerts.

The cabin space draws inspiration from the EV9, featuring a wide and minimalist dashboard, as well as a panoramic widescreen display that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The 4-spoke steering wheel incorporates most of the control buttons, while physical buttons are employed for the air conditioning. Dual USB-C ports, wireless charging, and multiple storage compartments are also present. Additionally, the rear seats can be folded flat for convenient cargo hauling.

Similar to other electric vehicles in the Hyundai/Kia family, the EV5 is expected to utilize the E-GMP platform. At this stage, the South Korean automaker hasn’t disclosed the technical specifications of the electric powertrain. However, leaked documents from China indicate that the Chinese market version of the Kia EV5 will feature a single electric motor producing 215 horsepower and a peak torque of 310 Nm, coupled with front-wheel drive.
