Toyota is getting ready to make a big splash in the 7-seater SUV segment with the upcoming launch of the next-generation Fortuner. While an official release date has not been confirmed by the Japanese automaker, all indications point to a debut around 2024.
The standout feature of the new Fortuner will be its revamped exterior design. Drawing inspiration from the latest generation Tacoma pickup truck, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner promises to showcase a completely refreshed design language compared to its current iteration. The front of the vehicle will feature a bold, imposing grille, along with new LED headlights and daytime running lights that contribute to its muscular and rugged appearance.
Unofficial design sketches have provided a glimpse of the highly anticipated new generation Toyota Fortuner. Leaked prototypes of the 2024 Fortuner have revealed some notable elements, including an expanded air intake and a wider skid plate in the bumper area, giving this 7-seater SUV a more aggressive stance.
One major upgrade for the next-generation Fortuner is that it will be built on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, which is also utilized in the Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX. With this platform transition, the new Fortuner will boast larger dimensions and improved proportions, resulting in a more spacious and comfortable interior. It is also expected to come equipped with premium features such as a sunroof and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
In terms of powertrain, the 2024 Fortuner will undergo a transition to an electrified hybrid system. This powertrain will consist of a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine combined with hybrid technology. Specifics regarding performance have yet to be disclosed. Toyota estimates that the addition of mild-hybrid technology will contribute to about 10% more fuel efficiency compared to the non-hybrid variant. Given the stringent global emission standards in place, an electrified powertrain is a necessary requirement for the Fortuner.
