BMW recently unveiled the latest iteration of its compact SUV, the X2. This time, the German automaker introduced an all-electric variant known as the iX2 to join its luxury SUV lineup.

The company has announced that the iX2 2024 will make its global debut at the Japan Auto Exhibition on October 26th, with sales set to commence in March next year. The initial offering will include the iX2 xDrive30 version.

Powering the BMW iX2 are two electric motors, positioned on the front and rear axles, delivering a combined output of 309 horsepower and a maximum torque of 494 Nm. With this power, the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

The electric motors draw energy from a 64.8 kWh battery pack, providing a substantial range of 417-449 km, as per the WLTP test cycle, when fully charged.

Charging the car takes approximately 6.5 hours with a standard 11 kW slow charger. However, employing a 22 kW AC slow charger will reduce the time to approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. The fast charging option, utilizing a 130 kW DC charger, can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

In terms of design, the BMW iX2 2024 features distinct elements that set it apart from its counterparts. Notably, the car boasts a closed kidney grille, coupled with a blue accent on the headlight system. The traditional exhaust pipe at the rear has been replaced by a charging port situated on the right side of the vehicle. The wheels of the iX2 2024 also receive unique styling compared to the combustion engine version, while most other design details remain consistent with the new X2 model.

The electric variant retains similar dimensions to its non-electric counterpart, measuring at 4,554 x 1,844 x 1,590 mm (length x width x height) with a wheelbase of 2,692 mm.

Inside the cabin, the BMW iX2 offers a spacious environment similar to that of the regular X2 model. The car features a large dashboard screen, seamlessly integrated with a digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen interface. One of the car’s technological highlights is the BMW Operating System 9, featuring a smartphone-inspired interface and extensive compatibility with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Additionally, the system integrates an AI assistant for a smarter driving experience.

The iX2 also comes equipped with modern convenience features such as automatic air conditioning, rear-seat air vents, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, an electric parking brake, and an automatic temporary brake hold.

Pricing details for the BMW iX2 2024 have yet to be disclosed.
